The Juice Stop in Kearney, NE is closed on Memorial Day. But that’s not the point. Headed back east after finishing a transport, we took a detour through town (in search of an open restaurant) and noticed this perfect example of adaptability. Obviously, this building didn’t start life as a drive through juicery. It was a Wells Fargo as of 4 years ago. But The Juice Stop owners clearly saw an amazing opportunity to repurpose this building when they started their business, which we really appreciate. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel when you can just find a new way to use it! That’s what we’ve tried to do with Wild Ride. Our camera system: off-the-shelf baby monitors. Temp sensors: designed for walk-in freezers. Heck, our HVAC system was made for a city transit bus! And repurposing like this has offered simple and often more cost-effective methods for getting things done. Kudos to The Juice Stop for such a cool decision. Hopefully they actually have good smoothies! 🥤

How do we operate over a wide area? Our small but mighty gritters often find themselves covering large sites which take up a lot of salt. This means that they may need to top up with salt to complete their round before coming back to our main yard. Whilst our Stansted depot holds the bulk of our salt we also keep satellite salt stores around all four counties. Each of these holds several tons of bagged salt allowing our drivers to fill up if required.
