In the words of our ally, Rep. Summer Lee: "“I don’t take for granted how important the work it is that you all do at every one of these facilities, the many people who are relying on this service who would otherwise not be taken care of. It’s my job to go and stand in the gap and to fight as hard as we can to make sure there is money in every budget.” https://lnkd.in/evVpmJgy

Stuff to think about, now better than too late. This is a short interview that helps define a state of mind that needs to be "already worked out" soon. It's more real now than when the interview was done. When my first grandchild was born in 1998, I reflected upon the ten things he ought to know. Over the past twenty-five years that list has grown to contain over 300 items. While I preferred to refer to the list as Quotations for Chairman Joe (with proper deference give to Mao Tse Tung and William F. Buckley), one of my sons-in-law hung the moniker Joeisms upon it. Every so often I am going to post one for your amusement, commentary, and reflection. Joeism #200 When you get to a Stop Sign…Stop!! This maxim has as much to do with traffic law as the play A Streetcar named Desire (Pulitzer Prize for Drama, 1948) has to do with the improvement of public transportation in New Orleans. This maxim addresses the relationship between compliance and commitment. Compliant people do what is required of them only when they perceive someone is watching them and there is a punishment for failure. Committed people do the right thing even when no one is watching, and even when it is difficult. Committed people go the extra mile. The extra mile is an interesting place. It is not very crowded and the people who travel on it are genuinely nicer of character. The good work you do demonstrates your ability to understand the difference between those two concepts. I encourage you to stay on that high road of commitment for when those times come and you stray, you will have a place to return and readjust your moral compass. Just as when an emergency requires you to be more casual with traffic laws, commitment merits you some wiggle room.

Prior to 1920, it was possible to send children through the US Postal service. However, there were certain conditions that needed to be met. Firstly, the children had to weigh less than 50 pounds, and stamps were attached to their clothing as a form of payment. Surprisingly, it was often more cost-effective for individuals to send their children via mail rather than opting for train transportation. Interestingly, during the journey, the children would travel on a train, specifically in the mail car, where they were supervised and provided with nourishment by mail clerks. One remarkable example of this unconventional practice involved a distance of over 700 miles, from Florida to Virginia, covered with a mere 15 cents worth of stamps. . . . . #USHistory #AmericanHistory #USAHistory #HistoryUSA #AmericanHeritage #HistoryBuffUSA #USHistoricalSites #AmericanLegacy #USHistoryFacts #HistoryInAmerica #HistoricUSA #AmericanPast #USAHeritage #AmericanCulture #HistoricAmerica

In July of last year, I launched IN THE CENTER LANE as part of my ongoing effort to promote civil discourse and critical thinking on the major issues of our times. I've now published the 45th essay in this endeavor. My social and political commentaries over the years have focused on the ongoing threats to American democracy. So, too, does this opinion piece: THE UNIFIED REICH: AN AMERICAN NIGHTMARE SCENARIO. https://lnkd.in/g-m-cxgx

Ask the 'STUPID' questions 🤷🏾♀️ ‘Explain it to me like I’m a 2 year old.’ Denzel Washington's trial attorney character in the film Philadelphia uses this device to simplify problems. When it comes to the numbers in your business, it’s your job to ask the seemingly stupid questions. Ask your advisors to keep it Simple, Transparent, Usable, Plain, Informative and Direct. 🤷🏾♀️ Can you explain it like I’m a five year old as simply as possible? 🤦🏾♀️ This doesn’t make sense to me, what am I missing? 🙋🏾♀️ How does this affect me? 🤷🏾♀️ Without jargon what does that mean? 🙋🏾♀️ What would you do differently based on this information? 🙍🏾♀️ I don’t understand this, please explain it again..... like I'm a two year old. Spotting what's going wrong and what's going right ahead of time can save you thousands and earn you even more. When you know what to look out for, what to ask and start to apply what you know about your business to the information you are being presented with, it's a game changer. 💡 You can make better decisions. 💡 Act more swiftly 💡 Change direction as needed 💡 Double down on what's working Love on your numbers with some stupid questions. It's the genius thing to do. #HappyFriday #fridaythoughts #loveyournumbers #ceomoves #realiseyourvalue ps Denzel is a GOAT and this film is a classic. Keynote Speaker Cultivating Wellness, Mental Health and Resilience through a Vicarious Trauma-Informed Approach
Are you emotionally intelligent? Are your coworkers emotionally intelligent? Jason M. Palamara and I and many of the contributors like Mike Roche have woven a common thread through Living Blue - EI influence on well-being. During my keynotes, I have often said that Emotional Intelligence (EI) can contribute positively to mental health and well-being, but preventing suicide is a complex issue with various contributing factors. EI alone may not be a definitive preventive measure for suicide, but it can play a role in fostering better mental health and resilience. How does it play a role? EI involves understanding and managing your emotions and the emotions of others. Here are some ways in which a high level of EI may contribute to suicide prevention indirectly: 1. Emotional Regulation: Individuals with strong EI may be better equipped to regulate emotions, cope with stress, and navigate challenging situations, which can be crucial in preventing despair and hopelessness that can lead to suicidal thoughts 2. Empathy: Empathy, a key component of EI, enables individuals to understand and connect with the feelings of others. For someone struggling with suicidal thoughts, having a supportive and empathetic network can be a vital lifeline 3. Effective communication: EI involves effective communication skills, which can be essential in reaching out to someone who may be struggling. #vicarioustrauma #suicideprevention #lawenforcement #firstresponder #emotionalintelligence

Met today with MP Fast, police and community leaders to discuss gang prevention efforts. I was impressed by the level of commitment from everyone involved and the past success Abbotsford has experienced in ending “gang life”. Moving forward, I would focus on two key strategies that enhance public safety and provide a way out of gang life for many young people: 1. Develop a comprehensive plan with full support from all key stakeholders. 2. Advocate for sustainable, long-term funding for gang prevention programs. A public-private partnership (P3) approach could be a viable solution to secure ongoing resources. As your MP, I will champion these initiatives.

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Kimberly C. Ellis on June 23 at 10:30am. Dr. Ellis will recount the Tulsa Race Riot, War, and Massacre of 1921, with a particular lens on transportation modes and policies which contributed to the demise of Tulsa’s Greenwood business and residential community and how today’s legislations and legal strategies could right some of the wrong, over a century later. https://ow.ly/LGVV50S46e5
