Today, former President Trump’s probation interview is scheduled as part of the standard sentencing process for felony convictions in NYS. During these interviews, the probation officer will gather information about the individual's life, the nature of their offense, and strategies for future compliance. This process informs the probation terms and is shared with the judge for sentencing considerations. Came across an intriguing situation today - learned that some companies are utilizing prison labor for cold calling and telemarketing work. I have to admit, I was quite surprised to hear this mentioned as an "objection" during a sales call. While employing incarcerated individuals can provide job training and skills, the ethics around prison labor are complex. There are potential concerns around voluntary consent, fair wages, and working conditions that would need careful review. I'm curious to learn more about how prevalent this practice is and what the typical arrangements entail. Has anyone else encountered companies using prison labor for call center operations? I'd be interested to hear different perspectives on this employment model. Ultimately, I believe exploring rehabilitation programs and job opportunities is positive. However, there are nuances to navigate when it comes to the rights and well-being of this workforce. An insightful discussion could shed more light on getting this right. What are your thoughts on companies utilizing prison labor for call centers or other business functions? I'm all ears on this rather unconventional employment situation. #coldcalling #leadb2b #leadgeneration

Any advice on finding a entry level crime scene tech/investigator job with just a Master’s in Criminal Justice and some corrections experience? (CO job & internship at a prison) I really want to go the CSI route but I’m not sure where to start. I got rejected by one of the CSI jobs I applied to and I was feeling really hopeful about it. Any suggestions? #CSI #crimescenetechnician #crimesceneinvestigation #forensics

What is a National Criminal Database search? 👇 This is the most common type of pre-employment background check and forms a starting point when looking at a candidate's criminal history. It's valuable because it brings up information from states and jurisdictions besides where the candidate has lived or worked. This search pulls from sources including state criminal databases, sex offender registries, county jail records, county court records, state licensing boards, probation/parole records, and so much more. From prison to wedding photography... When it comes to criminal justice, we only seem to see and read the bad news, but thankfully the BBC have reported on something positive....someone who did change their life and turned away from crime. What a great and encouraging article, again highlighting the importance of employment for reducing reoffending. Great input by Samantha Graham from Clean Sheet too. Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/eGMc5Sjq As always, if you want to learn more about criminal justice and be more confident in actively hiring people who have left prison, then get in touch and we can discuss how Myrtos can support you. #employment #reducingreoffending #inclusivehiring #positivechange #businessforpurpose

🗣 While well intentioned the below information is not always a realistic option as explaining a criminal record to potential employers can be a re-traumatising experience, especially for individuals whose conviction histories are deeply rooted in past abuse and trauma (which is the case hearing first hand experiences from my peers tell me and is reinforced by research). 👨⚖️ You have to explain yourself to the courts - you do your time and or conditions and then you have to continually explain yourself for the rest of your life it seems where is this ongoing discrimination and judgement factored into sentencing. It grossly hinders the ability to be able to take on meaningful, skilled roles where you can contribute in a positive way to society. All of the people that I know with living experience have a multitude of knowledge and value that cannot be taught in text books and are kind and compassionate despite the horrific treatment and trauma that they have had to overcome. 🛑 This process often forces us to relive painful memories and confront stigma and judgment, which can hinder reintegration and emotional healing. Here are key points for employers and people working within Government departments like "Blue Card Services" to consider when discussing this issue: 👩🎓 We are PEOPLE not a charge on a piece of paper, we are not the sum of our offences. 💔 Having to recount past offences can trigger painful memories and emotions, leading to re-traumatisation. Are you having these conversations with us that are framed in a psychologically safe way and offering support during this process? The fear of being judged or rejected based on their past can exacerbate feelings of shame and worthlessness, which are often prevalent among trauma survivors. The stress and anxiety associated with disclosing a criminal record can impede our efforts to rebuild their lives and achieve stability. In my experience many employers may not fully understand the complex, trauma-related factors that contributed to the individual’s criminal behaviour, leading to unfair assessments and decisions - Decisions based on judgment and personal bias as opposed to selecting the best person for the role. I want to strongly highlight the importance of trauma-informed approaches in hiring practices and the need for employers to create supportive environments that facilitate rather than hinder rehabilitation and reintegration. Many employers claim to be fully inclusive when they are not, this needs to change. We need hiring practices that consider the deep-seated challenges faced by individuals with conviction histories. Have you been discriminated against when applying for a role due to your criminal record? If you feel safe and comfortable to do so please share your thoughts below (if not please send me a DM always happy to chat). Are you an employer that wants to know how you can make your employment process trauma informed and inclusive lets have a conversation.
