Anyone here have a good 811 Illinois (JULIE/DIGGER) contact? Why do I ask? Cobra Concrete Cutting Services Co. had our 3rd and final safety meeting on the year today (one for each of our 3 branches). I did a presentation on GPR and Saw Cutting Best Practices. It’s always a good opportunity to clarify our standards and get good feedback from our field techs. The subject of core drilling prior to boring to confirm utility depth came up in the Q & A portion. Almost 4 years ago we asked the “811” representative at a Concrete Sawing & Drilling Association (CSDA) event what the rule was when coring for potholes (vs. the “don’t penetrate full depth 18” off any marked utility” when saw cutting). Still waiting on an answer. This one was a core I did 3 years ago. 24” thick pavement, the pipe was at 23”. Thank God the barrel of my core hit the top of the pavement at 22.5”. To give you perspective of the size of the ComEd line, the core is 16” wide. Pulled out the core and was asked if I bought a lottery ticket that day.
