PROJECT UPDATE: We want to highlight a special project coming to a close in just 2 months! The brand-new Baucom Elementary School in Apex North Carolina will be opening in August. Skanska Wake County Public School System Baucom Elementary School Andre Johnson Architects Fun Facts about Baucom... -The School is located in the nation's 16th-largest school district. - The original Baucom Elementary School building was over 50 years old. - A noteworthy change taking place at Baucom is a focus on creating outside teaching space. - Every five or six classrooms there will be an open area to facilitate a collaborative spirit and to make it a fresh and different learning space. - The cafeteria and gym will have built-in movable walls. This versatile feature will allow the school to quickly and easily convert these areas into different spaces when needed (for concerts, assemblies, and graduations, for example). - A Reading Garden will be created outside the library, featuring diverse plantings to support outdoor learning. - The Learning Commons will overlook the courtyard area. - Younger students will have a special treehouse to encourage physical and intellectual curiosity.
