Oregon’s hospitals have added 2,900 jobs this year, continuing a steady growth trend in the health care sector. This bright spot contrasts with statewide job growth, which has slowed in the past year. The information is part of an Oregon Employment Department report, which also shows 18,800 vacancies, including 1,600 open nursing positions. The data show that Oregon’s hospitals are vital sources of jobs, and that there’s still work ahead to grow the state’s health care workforce to fill those nurse vacancies.

Ideal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant: Is investigative in nature, wants to understand the veterans claim, collect evidence, and stay unbiased. Someone who can stay focused on 1 patient at a time vs. bouncing between 20 patients per day. Can handle the challenge of completing complex documentation. I was fortunate to be able to participate in the #WES report. Internationally educated nurses (IENs) play an important role in strengthening the #healthcare workforce in #Ontario; however, many continue to face barriers to registration and practice. This report describes the registration status, #employment outcomes, and #nursing skills utilization for 758 IENs who do not currently work as nurses in the province. The findings in this report supplement the existing data landscape on IENs in #Ontario and contribute to ongoing research into the state of the province's health-care #workforce. • 50% of IENs surveyed had not yet begun the registration process in Ontario, but intended to apply. • 79% are working in alternative employment in the health care sector in non-nursing/allied health roles as nurse aides, personal support workers, dietary aides, medical or lab technicians, pharmacy assistants, and other  allied health roles. • 21% are not working in the health care sector. • 88% of respondents are actively pursuing or planning to pursue professional registration. • 6% do not intend to pursue registration or re-enter the nursing profession in Ontario. Key deterrents include lack of clarity around  the registration process and concern that the process takes too long. • 19% say their current job doesn’t make use of  any of their nursing skills or experience.
