It's funny to me how one of the people in show business I respect the most handles an interview of NYT while showing how much he owns being a leader, boss and spokesperson for many different subjects and topics. I guess most people (especially in the US) know this "former British citizen with a loose tongue" already so he doesn't need a big introduction but for those who don't - you got a lot of catching up to do, his content is incredible. "Last Week Tonight" is an amazing show (similar to "Die Anstalt" in Germany) showcasing important topics in a way that is horrifying and funny at the same time with a higher retention rate of "learned information" than you'd expect from this format. What is incredible about the interview is how it showcases his personality and that "what you see is what you get". He is honest, down to earth and the same personality as on his show. At the same time he is also highlighting his amazing staff and the very tedious, long and tough work that goes into producing each and every piece / show they produce. Especially pointing out that he knows how tough some of those research parts can be, especially mentally on the one doing the research, if you look at some of the bleak content they deliver in a refreshing way is an insight you don't often hear from people in his position. For many people the show is "him" and that's about it. Getting some insights into the many hundreds of hours from an idea to a basic vision board (which still isn't even 10% of the way to creating the show) was mind blowing and delivered with his usual dry sense of humor and charm. He doesn't name anyone (except his "partner") by name but still gives credit where credit is due in a piece about himself which shows how much he cares about his show as well as his colleagues. Also, thanks to The New York Times / @NYTPodcasts for this interview.
