❌ 90% of startups face failure, with financing challenges standing out as a primary reason. Often, founders underestimate their financial requirements, forget about costs, fail to find investors in time or place their company in the wrong hands. The latest focus week provided our #startups with a hands-on #financing overview to navigate this complex landscape. We kicked off with a business canvas model workshop that challenged or confirmed the current business model. 🟢SpinLab - The HHL Accelerator CEO Eric Weber covered process-driven financial planning and key aspects of the #fundraising journey. 🟢Dr. Nik Raupp Raupp, Senior Investment Manager at HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds, unveiled the behind-the-scenes of fundraising: #investor perspectives, common mistakes, and shortcuts for #founders. 🟢The #grants presentation by EurA AG, led by Sarah Müncheberg, Dr. Maria Jaeger, and Davin Underwood, offered a comprehensive insight of #grant opportunities in Europe. 🟢 Startups reviewed the Business Model Canvas together with Gaia Amatteis. The Business Model Canvas is an essential tool to challenge the existing business strategy and its development. 🟢 Hendrik Schulze's smart KPIs & customer journey workshop equipped the startups with practical tools to identify and track relevant KPIs for their unique paths. 🟢Sönke Scheltz and Manuel Söldenwagner delved into intellectual property contracts, dealing with the different types of contracts concerning intellectual property (IP) and aiming to classify and present their contents and pitfalls. A big thank you to our mentors and alumni BIOWEG who shared their founder story! 

🎉 Our Expert Talk - talking about positive EXITs when angel investing and the ingredients for such a journey - was a real success.   What made this session a success is both the engaged audience (30+ active participants sharing a long list of questions), and the valuable insights we received from the 3 speakers.   Precious takeaways from serial angel investors to first-time or future investors in startups:   👉 ‘Be the dream’ – Investors should look for founders who embody their vision, founders with the energy and conviction to bring that vision to life, and ideally, with complementary skills and backgrounds. 👉 Equity story – The equity story can be a dealbreaker. Investors should look for startups that have a strong rationale behind their equity decisions, and founders should demonstrate strong ownership of it. 👉 ROI – The return range (positive EXIT percentage) is the one we know: 2/3 of startups that receive funding either fail or return only the initial investment, while 1/3 offer a generous ROI, balancing the losses and giving investors the opportunity to feel fortunate. 👉 Do the math - With 20 investments, angel investors have a good chance of making one, two, or even three high-returning investments. This should be the size of a portfolio if you are serious about angel investing 👉 Do your homework - At least 80 hours of deep dive assessment before committing to an investment, this is the minimum effort a serious angel investor should commit. 👉 Call a Friend – in case you don’t understand the technology, find an expert to give you their opinion on the competitive advantage of the technology. 👉 Intangible assets – at early stages of development, investors should look for intangible assets (e.g., patents (if applicable) or a competitive advantage that will make the startup stand out from the crowd). 👉 Last, but definitely not least, the startup should address a truly significant pain point!   😍😍 We learned that experiencing a beautiful multiple of your investment feels incredibly rewarding!    👏 Thank you very much Radu Georgescu, Raphaël Boukris and Daniela Aldescu for sharing all these very precious insights with our club!   💡 If you are considering becoming an angel investors, let us know and we will invite you to get an overview of our portfolio’s KPIs.
