New Health Check report from Campaign for National Parks shows that even in our incredible National Parks, nature needs a lifeline. Only 6% of the total land area of National Parks is currently managed effectively for nature. Unique and precious habitats are under threat, and many species are at risk of disappearing entirely. Disappointingly #Dartmoor ranks as the 4th lowest National Park for woodland growth between 2015 and 2019 with 49ha of new woodland coverage. It also has the 4th lowest woodland coverage by area (12%) and the 6th highest potential for woodland coverage (31%).    While we recognise that Moor Trees has a vital role and responsibility to encourage and inspire more woodland restoration and expansion on Dartmoor we need to work with others to identify and unlock suitable sites to achieve our vision to help turn this around. https://lnkd.in/eXNiivnT

Today is World Rainforest Day 🌿 On this important global day, we acknowledge the three distinct areas of #worldheritage listed rainforest in Australia, as defined by #UNESCO. The cool temperate rainforests of the Tasmanian Wilderness, the wet tropical rainforests of Queensland and the largely subtropical and warm temperate rainforests of the Gondwana Rainforests, which includes the Greater #BlueMountains Area. Did you know? 🌴 1% of the 1.03 million hectare Greater Blue Mountains Area is rainforest, descended from the ancient supercontinent of Gondwana.
