Exciting news for sustainable tech! Stena Recycling is leading the charge in EV battery recycling in Europe with a groundbreaking project. They're building a new plant in Norway, this facility will process up to 3,000 tonnes of batteries annually - that's 6,000-8,000 EV batteries! In collaboration with EV HUB, they're developing AI-powered diagnostics to create a complete, scalable value chain for EV battery reuse and recycling. This initiative couldn't be more timely, with 30 million EVs expected on European roads by 2030. The plant will feature advanced recycling infrastructure, AI algorithms for battery assessment, innovative dismantling processes, and modular battery storage for second-life applications. This project promises reduced CO2 emissions, lower resource consumption, new green jobs, and support for the transition to a low-carbon society. What are your thoughts on this green initiative? Behind the green transition: How IPCO AB is pioneering sustainable innovation As the CEO of IPCO, I am deeply committed to leading our organization towards a greener future, one where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. In an era where environmental responsibility is paramount, IPCO is not just participating in the green transition – we are actively driving it. Enabling large-volume production of bio-based materials IPCO is uniquely positioned to support the increasing demand for large-volume production of bio-based and recyclable materials. Our advanced technologies and expert teams are central to this mission. One notable example of our work is with our partner NFW, which produces MIRUM®, a plant-based alternative to leather, using our double-belt press. MIRUM® is used by high-profile customers such as H&M and Ralph Lauren. When we first started our collaboration, we worked with NFW very closely to define the most effective parameters to enable continuous production. Since then, our Service teams have been supporting them intensively, first to install, and now to continuously optimize production on our double-belt press. Innovative productivity centres pushing boundaries Our seven state-of-the-art productivity centres worldwide are the heart of our innovation. These centres test and develop new materials and production processes, essential for the green transition. Often, we are working with new material compounds which have never been manufactured in large volumes before. Manufacturing specifications, such as the amount of heat or pressure needed require testing and verification. Recently, we conducted tests combining recycled wind turbine blades with other materials to produce building panels. We’ve also been enabling dry processing of battery elements, which is much cleaner and less energy-intensive than conventional battery manufacturing. Supporting start-ups and scaling sustainable solutions IPCO has a presence in innovation labs, where we are helping start-ups to take their next steps. There are thousands of small businesses working with circular or bio-based materials. We can help them scale: to manufacture 500g of their product, then 500 kg, and eventually to industrialize it. Our recent partnership with the WISE Research Arena on Sustainable Electrochemical Technologies, exemplifies our commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions. Funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, WISE focuses on materials science for sustainability. This collaboration allows us to offer manufacturing trials for groundbreaking battery innovations. Davies Office partners with the Department of Energy's Remade Institute to power a sustainable future. By spearheading innovative material reuse and recycling, we're minimizing waste, reducing emissions, and building a vibrant circular economy. The REMADE Institute, established in 2017, focuses on driving down costs for technologies critical to reusing, recycling, and remanufacturing materials like metals, plastics, and electronics. This fuels the United States' transition to a Circular Economy, aiming to extend product lifespans and minimize waste. A public-private partnership with over 165 members, REMADE invests in early-stage R&D projects tackling "hard-to-abate" materials. These projects aim to: Reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions Conserve resources and increase recycled material usage Boost U.S. manufacturing competitiveness and create green jobs The institute estimates remanufacturing decreases U.S. manufacturing emissions, playing a crucial role in reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. REMADE's 2024 Circular Economy Technology Summit in April showcases their latest innovations, demonstrating their commitment to building a sustainable future.

International Presenters Announced for the 2024 Australian Battery Summit -Battery ecosystem experts from Korea and Germany will deliver international insights on battery investment, technology and recycling at the 2024 Australian Battery Manufacturing and Recycling Summit in Sydney on August 15 at the Hilton Hotel. Hyukjin Yun, Managing Director of P3 Group’s Korean operations is an M&A expert and Dr. Christian Baur, is a technical expert across next-generation batteries, recycling and manufacturing operational processes. P3 -Group is sponsoring the leading battery experts who will present at the Summit. Green isn't a trend - it's here to stay. Here I've opined a few thoughts on Sustainable Manufacturing: ]#SustainableManufacturing #GreenTech Sustainability has become a non-negotiable focus for manufacturers over the past 10 years, but especially in the past 3. With increasing environmental concerns and a growing emphasis on corporate social economic and environmental responsibility, businesses are making significant strides toward sustainable manufacturing practices. This is great news! One key aspect of #sustainable manufacturing is the adoption of #green technologies. Manufacturers are incorporating renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, into their operations to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs. Sustainable materials, breakthroughs in material composite design and smart #recycling efforts are on the rise to minimize waste. Really interesting ideas such as #carboncapture are picking up steam and options to recycle energy is tantilizing with net new energy sources dominating news waves. Furthermore, the concept of the #circulareconomy is gaining traction in manufacturing. Companies are reimagining product design, emphasizing durability, repairability, and recyclability. I know I'm not a huge fan of paper straws BUT the point remains, a shift has occurred. This shift not only aligns with environmental goals but also addresses consumer demands for eco-friendly products. Sustainable manufacturing isn't just about reducing the environmental footprint; it also leads to cost savings and improved #branding and brand reputation. As consumers increasingly choose environmentally responsible products, businesses that prioritize sustainability are better positioned for long-term success.
