Vice President Managed Care & Population Health at Jackson Health System Leadership Florida Cornerstone 38
Stable housing is not only a basic human need but also a key determinant of population health. As a healthcare thought leader, I spoke at an affordable housing summit about the devastating effects of the housing crisis on community health. When housing becomes unaffordable and out of reach, the health of the community is at stake. Let's work together to ensure that everyone has access to safe and affordable housing. #PopulationHealth #AffordableHousing #CommunityHealth #HealthcareThoughtLeader
Miami Homes For All on Instagram: "A HUGE thanks to our keynote speakers and panelists that made the day what it was. We had speakers travel from across the country to present their work alongside other incredible panelists representing Miami-Dade. Each year, National Public Health Week, held on the first week of April, celebrates the vital contributions of public health and addresses critical issues essential for enhancing the well-being of our nation. It underscores the fact that public health extends far beyond healthcare. Today's theme, Healthy Neighborhoods, underscores the profound impact of our living environments on health. Where individuals reside, dine, work, travel, learn, and relax significantly influences their well-being. So, what defines a healthy neighborhood? It encompasses safe living spaces, infrastructure supporting physical activity, easy access to nutritious and affordable food, and areas free of pollution. When these elements are lacking, individuals within the community may face health challenges beyond their control. Building a healthy neighborhood hinges on social cohesion. Strengthening connections with neighbors and investing in communal spaces are initial steps toward fostering a thriving community. Advocating for accessible green spaces promotes leisure, exercise, and pollution reduction. Additionally, lobbying for increased access to healthy food, like farmer's markets in underserved areas, can yield long-term benefits. Moreover, governmental support for better infrastructure, including initiatives to replace aging pipes that pose health risks to low-income communities, plays a pivotal role in promoting community health. 🗳️ #NPHW #NationalPublicHealthWeek #HealthyNeighborhoods
