Chief Executive Officer, Milford Haven Port Authority - the UK’s largest energy port - ideas and action for future generations
Reflecting on one thing this weekend; when our industry speaks with one voice, good things happen!! Lovely news about AR6 and AR7. Another link in the chain as we seek to build Wales’ Green Cyclical Economy. And what’s Wales’ Green Cyclical Economy? Well it’ll look something like green electrons, powering green arc furnaces, making green steel, to produce a vaste green turbine infrastructure, to power a green reindustrialisation, based on green innovation, located across green energy ports that create thousands of green jobs and which enables us to reach our net zero targets. Onwards!! 💚 Port of Milford Haven Associated British Ports Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council Celtic Freeport RenewableUK Cymru RenewableUK Net Zero Industry Wales British Ports Association UK Major Ports Group Pembroke Port #floatingoffshorewind #floatingwind #rukfew23

Did you know that more than $2 billion is spent annually on fuel for ships while idling? This cost will only grow with the shift towards future fuels and additional carbon taxation. The UN Conference on Trade and Development estimates that decarbonising the world fleet by 2050 will cost between $8-28B per annum, with an additional $28-90B per annum required for the carbon neutral fuel infrastructure. Our offshore power and charging solutions currently stand as the most cost-effective and efficient means to decarbonise idle emissions. While e-fuels are an important part of decarbonising the maritime sector, our solution of providing direct electricity is the most efficient use of resources when applicable, requiring 4-8 times less power than converting green energy to e-fuels for vessel consumption. Utilising Stillstrom’s green anchorage zones for idling will provide a substantial cost advantage over alternative fuels, and will create a quiet, clean environment for sea life, seafarers, and local communities. 🌿🌊 Get in touch to find out how we can decarbonise your ships, anchorages, ports, and communities. 🚢⚡ #Offshorepowerandcharging #OceanCleantech #GreenAnchorageZones #Decarbonising

With our Green Ships, Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan, TT-Line is setting new standards in environmental protection. By using sulphur-free LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) together with the general efficiency of ship operations in combination with the increased capacity on offer enables an improvement in the emissions balance per transported freight unit. Greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by up to 66% per transported freight unit. Furthermore local air emissions, such as particles and sulfur and nitrogen oxide are reduced by up to 98%. Our Green Ships are equipped with state-of-the-art technology from MAN Energy Solutions SE and other European suppliers. In close cooperation with the Danish company OSK Shiptech A/S, we are focussing on innovation and sustainability. The LNG equipment on our new ships is subsidised by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. As a pioneer in the southern Baltic Sea using LNG, we are proud to be paving the way for greener shipping. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eGF-h7qH #ttline #ttlinegreenships #greenships #sustainability

The FTA Ireland 'Decarbonising the Road Freight Sector Ireland' report was launched by Minister of State Department of Transport James Lawless on the 9th of July 2024. The report can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/gQhaC5Dq Specifically relating to commercial fleet operations, when we think of transport decarbonisation most of us initially think of complexity of change, the cost of change, infrastructure to support fleet operations transition to alternative fuels, as well as many other obstacles that potentially impact transition decisions. One of the objectives of this report is to highlight the unique circumstances for the freight distribution sector, differentiate it from general transport and highlight solutions available to help operators decarbonise. The report demonstrates that we are willing to change (indeed FTA Ireland members are leading the way in this regard operating CNG/BioMethane, Hydrogen and electric commercial vehicles as well as utilizing the decarbonising benefits of HVO). The ambition to change is there and must be matched by Government supports. Our partners in the project Gas Networks Ireland SSE Renewables Air Products & Inver Energy Ireland representing different alternative fuels options demonstrate that a coordinated and collaborative approach to change works and it is in everyone's interest to be informed and educated on the alternative fuels available and how they can suit their business. There is more than one solution to fleet decarbonisation. This report is a start, and we hope that it generates debate, a more thorough understanding of the challenges for the road freight distribution sector. We hope that the report will encourage more direct engagement with experts from industry across all government departments willing to develop viable solutions for our industry. I would recommend that all commercial fleet operators should download this very informative report to inform their commercial vehicle decarbonising journey. #environment #transport #logitsics #haulage #decarbonisation #climateaction #ftaireland

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping predicts that every dollar spent on energy-saving solutions now, can be 10 times cheaper for the shipping industry to invest in than paying for alternative fuel solutions down the road. The existing and proven fuel-savings technologies can already now add significant fuel savings, but are not yet adopted widely in the industry. With the indicative checkpoint on 2030 set by the International Maritime Organization, an absolute emissions reduction of 20% (though aiming for 30%) compared with 2008, we need the wider shipping industry to focus on energy efficiency here and now! Advanced hull coatings, such as Hempaguard X7 from Hempel Marine, provides both efficiency gains and have a relatively low capital expenditure allowing for an attractive return on investment! #decarbonisation #shipping #hullcoatings #hempaguard

The Australian Airports Association (AAA) welcomes today’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Ampol, GrainCorp and IFM Investors to explore the establishment of an integrated renewable fuels industry in Australia. Initially, the MOU will include a feasibility assessment for a renewable fuels facility in Brisbane, including a supply of local homegrown feedstocks. This is a significant step on the path to net zero and aligns with the AAA’s position to build a domestic Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industry. With an average jet fuel consumption of 7,700 million litres per year, a major base of supply is needed to support the sector. Last week, we provided feedback to the government’s consultation paper on low carbon liquid fuels, noting there are opportunities for Australia to become a major producer. Airports advocate for a minimum level of SAF to be mandated for use in the aviation industry by 2030, production tax credits and incentivising producers, and prioritising SAF over Renewable Diesel in the short term.
