Congratulations to our first Enhanced LPN Program graduates. In collaboration with the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care, (SLTC), and under the leadership of Ann Mann, Northwood implemented its first Enhanced LPN Orientation program to eligible Internally Educated Nurses (IEN). To participate, IENs, were required to have a valid work permit, conditional RN or LPN license with the Nova Scotia Colleges of Nurses, and 5 years recent nursing experience. Northwood had four staff successfully complete the theory and clinical aspects of the orientation as of Friday, Jan 10, 2025. The orientation has received positive comments relating to how the program was held and how confident the candidates felt going into their clinical rotations. Congratulations to the four staff on the successful completion of your program. A special thank you to Ann Mann for leading the group toward this success. We look forward to the staff starting in their new LPN roles.

What struck me about the "The Wisdom of Nurses" by Amie Archibald-Varley and Sara Fung, MN, BSN, RN was the power of nursing stories. Amie and Sara begin by sharing their stories. Why did they become nurses? How have their life and career experiences shaped their interests and pursuits? We may have come from an infinite number of possible backgrounds that are in some ways similar and some ways different, but we are all striving for something. Only you know what that is. In "Nursing WISELY: How to Build a Nursing Career that is Worthwhile, Interesting, Sustainable, Empowered and Limitless by Putting Yourself First," I provide a framework for how to reflect on your own nursing story. This exercise is not only cathartic, but spurs personal growth. Whether you plan to share your story or not is up to you! Happy nurses week! Pick up your copy of Nursing Wisely here: amzn.to/3Q3i4tH

🩺 Flexibility: A Key Skill for Nurses—and for Nursing Mentors 🩺 Flexibility isn’t just a skill—it’s a necessity in nursing. Whether it’s handling unexpected situations on the floor or adjusting to the unique learning needs of each student, the ability to adapt makes all the difference. Being flexible with my NCLEX students goes far beyond our scheduled sessions. It means *truly* being there when they need it, whether hopping on an extra Zoom call, exchanging a few quick emails to answer questions, or sending a “you’ve got this!” text the day before a big exam. Just like the unpredictable nature of a hospital shift, students’ needs can pop up at any time. To build that trust and confidence, I make it a point to respond as if I’m on the floor with calm, adaptability, and care. This flexibility isn’t just helpful—it’s transformative. In nursing and mentoring, showing up for each other makes our journeys lighter and our goals more achievable. So whether it’s mentoring students or managing patient care, remember: flexibility can be your strongest asset. #NurseMentor #NurseLife #NCLEXSupport #Adaptability #NursingJourney #Encouragement #oneononetips #newnurse #nursinginprogress #newrole #nclexprep #nclexrn #Nclexlpn #nclexsuccess

The Importance of Including Nursing Careers in the Curriculum for Nursing Schools. Many nurses enter the profession unaware of the vast opportunities that exist beyond bedside care. By integrating **nursing careers** as a dedicated course in nursing school, we can equip future RNs with the knowledge and guidance needed to explore diverse career paths—whether in leadership, research, education, or specialty fields. Most importantly paths that encourage growth and independence. This course can bridge the gap between clinical practice and professional growth, empowering nurses to thrive in roles that align with their passions and the evolving healthcare landscape. #NursingEducation #CareerDevelopment #NursingOpportunities #FutureofNursing
