We recently encountered several challenges while supervising a development project in Greater Sydney. The Development Control Plan was amended after we had already submitted our Subdivision Works Certificate which meant rationalising differing design and construction requirements during the detailed design and construction phases. Working in the construction industry demands critical thinking, creative problem-solving skills, a composed approach, and excellent stakeholder engagement skills. Some of the obstacles we had to overcome were: - Flood-prone and unsuitable fill areas - Rain gardens causing service disruptions - Poor quality of existing materials - Accommodating bioretention street tree and run-off requirements To resolve this, we employed innovative thinking. The construction backlog jumped up by around 4.5% in July, reaching a whopping 9.3 months.
