Think about the major land promoters for housing in England and the Church of England may not come first to mind. Yet it’s one of England’s biggest landowners, with a portfolio of at least 32,000 hectares managed by the Church Commissioners for England. And it has also – since 2021’s Coming Home report – turned its mind to making a deliberate contribution to addressing England’s housing crisis. With enough strategic land over 60 sites to build 30,000 houses, 9,000 of them affordable, the CCE's resources are considerable. Simon Wicks meets the planners who are on a mission to build. HOMES NSW LAUNCHES 🏠 Community Housing Providers have long been calling for key NSW housing-related entities to be streamlined as an essential foundation for a strong social and affordable housing system. Yesterday, the new NSW agency became a reality. Homes NSW will be "the largest public housing agency in the southern hemisphere", bringing together the NSW Department of Communities and Justice housing and homelessness services, the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office and key worker housing. Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson said: “For too long, social housing in this state has been neglected – simple issues such as a leaking tap or even the ability to register on the waitlist have been unnecessarily complicated. ‘’That’s why this overhaul is needed. We’re breaking the chains of bureaucracy and empowering our tenants, as well as those who are in need of emergency housing, or on the social housing waitlist... "The creation of a single agency to manage social and affordable housing and homelessness services is a common sense approach and is positioned to provide support to the people who need it most." Inaugural CEO of Homes NSW Rebecca Pinkstone said: “Homes NSW will deliver on the promise of more and better social and affordable housing in NSW. Our aim is to create the best social housing system in the country.
