We would like to invite you to a webinar focused on supporting team mental health in veterinary clinics. As we know, veterinary work can be emotionally challenging and stressful, and it's important to ensure that your team members have the support they need to maintain their mental well-being. The webinar will cover the following topics: • What we mean by mental health and discussing the causes of the decline in mental health in the sector (based on research report in early 2023 that many of you took part in) Understanding the impact of stress on mental health • Recognising signs of mental distress in yourself and others • Strategies for promoting mental wellness in the workplace • Resources available for mental health support The webinar will be presented by Emma Wynne who is a Mental Health First Aid qualified and has worked in HR for over 20 years, and has a key interest in this topic. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session where you can ask any questions you may have. The webinar is completely free. We believe that investing in your team is one of the most important things you can do for the success of your practice. We look forward to seeing you there! https://lnkd.in/euwS7v6K #HRforvetsonlineevent #mentalhealth #veterinary #event #gatewayHR

I'm currently reviewing literature on mental health in the veterinary profession for my MEd, and I stumbled upon this brief piece in the Vet Record by the inspirational and much missed David Bartram: 'Guidance and support for mental wellbeing'. I know I've seen it before, and likely glossed over it as I continue the search for journal articles, but for some reason today it particularly resonated with me - probably because I have been going through a rough season in my own mental health journey recently. So I thought I would share the guidance - maybe someone else on my list needs to see it too. As David says below, it is easy to view these five simple suggestions with cynicism, but they are rooted in research and supported by evidence: 🔹Connect with the people around you. 🔹Be active - do something physical that you enjoy. 🔹Take notice and be mindful; reflect on your experiences. 🔹Keep on learning; try something new. 🔹Give, and be kind...and be grateful. I am constantly grateful for the work of my colleagues in striving for a mentally healthier profession. I'm going to take the advice, get outside, and blow the cobwebs away! #veterinaryprofession #reducethestigma #timetotalk #mindmatters #veterinarysurgeon #veterinarynurse #veterinarypractice #mentalhealth #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealthaware #mhfa #nohealthwithoutmentalhealth

R U OK? holds special significance in the veterinary industry where mental health is a particularly pressing issue. To all our community, we want to amplify the message of R U OK? and give practical tips on how you could save a life. It can be scary to talk about, but we know that 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝟒❌ 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, so your efforts are going to have a crucial impact. With constant high pressure and high emotion situations, dealing with life and death decisions on a daily basis, vet professionals face a tough environment where your small actions can make a difference by lending a helping ear. 1️⃣ 𝐀𝐬𝐤 - how are you travelling? 2️⃣ 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 - now you have to really listen and hear what the other person is sharing 3️⃣ 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - ask about what a first step might be, suggest they talk to their regular GP 4️⃣ 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 - let them know you'll be checking in & make sure you follow up Anyone can be a champion of change and everyone should be a champion of normalising R U OK? conversations, for resources please check out: https://loom.ly/qozN-Rg Jodi MacKinnon, Rob Webster, Simon Lemin BVSc MANZCVS GAICD LLM, Roderick Meehan, Sharon Stevenson, Catherine Walker, Sonja Ceri, MAICD, AMICDA #RUOKDAY #vethealth #veterinaryprofessionals #mentalhealthawareness

Do you have a veterinarian mental health-focused story of transformation to share? Horses for Mental Health collects Stories of Transformation that showcase the powerful progress clients have made by working with horses. They are currently seeking stories relating to veterinarians, to raise awareness about the mental health crisis affecting veterinarians in the United States, and call attention to the surprising disconnect between the public's perception of veterinary medicine and the reality of the mental health struggles they commonly face. If you or your organization has a compelling story relating to a veterinarian having formed a unique relationship with horses in mental health services, please share it using this form: https://lnkd.in/efw5_Ch6 #NOMV #NotOneMoreVet #VeterinaryCommunity #ElevatingVeterinaryWellbeing
