Your mental health is important and seeking support when you need it is vital. While veterinary medicine does have unique challenges, we also have amazing resources that exist to help all members of veterinary teams and students who are struggling. This #MHAM, explore resources available to you inside and outside of your organization. Not One More Vet's Lifeboat is designed to be a resource for anyone employed in the veterinary field. While Lifeboat does not provide mental health intervention, it does anonymously provide individuals in crisis with veterinary professionals who are trained in peer support and will remain in contact with those in crisis, so they feel understood and validated. The anonymity allows all to feel safe in sharing all aspects of the situation and the peer aspect provides people who speak the same language and understand the nuances of working in the veterinary field. Have you registered? 🌟 Join us for The Missing Link: Veterinary Wellbeing & Oppression. The lecture, by Angie Arora, MSW, RSW, will take place on January 8, 2024, from 6 - 7 PM EST // 3 - 4 PM PST 💚 ➡️ Learn more and register by visiting nomv.org/webinars When discussing veterinary wellbeing, rarely do we address the role that oppression plays. However, folks studying and working in veterinary medicine cannot separate overt and covert oppression from their professional lives, as it can contribute to more nuanced experiences of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue. This session will demonstrate the impacts of oppression on professional wellbeing, team dynamics, client/patient care, and the veterinary community while planting seeds for systemic change. This is the first webinar of our two-part series: DEIB & Mental Wellbeing in Veterinary Medicine. In partnership with Pawsibilities 💚 #NOMV #NotOneMoreVet #ElevatingVeterinaryWellbeing #VetMed #DEIB #Webinar

As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month this May, let’s shine a spotlight on the veterinary industry and the strides it has made in prioritizing mental well-being. Veterinary professionals have come a long way since the first major study on mental health, well-being, and burnout was conducted nearly seven years ago. The stigma surrounding mental health issues has diminished, and more resources are now available to create psychologically safe workplaces. Veterinary Medicine is still known for having an increase risk of mental health issues and even suicide. The 2023 Merck Animal Health Veterinarian Wellbeing Study IV, conducted in collaboration with the AVMA, revealed encouraging findings. Veterinary teams are increasingly seeking help, and the profession is actively addressing challenges. However, there’s still work to be done to empower professionals at all levels within veterinary medicine. Let’s continue supporting one another, fostering a culture of understanding, and promoting mental health awareness in the veterinary community. Together, we can ensure that our beloved animal caregivers thrive both personally and professionally. #MentalHealthAwareness #VeterinaryWellbeing #TogetherWeHeal
