"I plan to never take a job that requires five days in the office ever again. Working from home has completely improved my quality of life, which matters most to me at this point."
I turned down my dream job. Work-from-home flexibility is too important to me.

Most companies that have issued return to office policies have cited productivity. That's a totally reasonable concern - if employees aren't being productive, something should change. But if you're in this boat, consider what you're doing to keep them engaged, motivated, and valued first. Long before you order them back to the office. I'm as big a remote work fan as there is. It's been about 12 years since I regularly worked in an office with my co-workers. And about 9 years since I last set foot in an office building. I've done the most interesting, challenging, and valuable work of my career during that time. But here's a secret. If I had worked from home at the prior job where I regularly went to an office, I wouldn't have gotten much done. I probably would have watched TV much of the day. But you know what? That's not too different from my productivity when I was in the office at that job, where I wasted a lot of time on the internet. The issue with that job wasn't where I was working. It was with what I was doing. It didn't interest me. It didn't challenge me. I didn't feel valued. When all of that changed, my productivity changed as well. And I've been fortunate that for most of the last 12 years, people haven't cared whether I get my work done from an office, my home, or the beach. (I'd never actually work at the beach...Come to think of it, the best way to get me motivated to go into an office is to tell me the only other option would be to work at the beach.) #remotework #motivation #management

🏡 Working from home - Is it all what it’s cracked up to be? Yesterday I had a moment of reflection after seeing Superfly Marketing recent podcast clip talking about working from home. It made me go over how different I have worked over the last 4 years. Through pandemics, job changes, redundancies, and launching my own business (I’m sure I have missed a few things out), it's changed up so much. When the question around working from home crops up, it mostly seems there is a divide. Like you HAVE to be one or the other. It’s obviously never that black and white, but in my own experience I can totally understand why so many people may see it this way. 👈 Cast your minds back to pre-covid. I worked in an office, 5 days a week, 7-8 hours a day. You always struggled to crack on because if you did you were anti-social, or if you didn’t you clearly wasn’t busy enough? The Big Brother eye that most office spaces had. So, when covid rocked up and forced working from home, it gave a beautiful serenity of doing the work without feeling utterly drained by daily office antics and spending hours commuting. Plus you could get your washing done! 👉 Skip forward a few years, and I landed a role which was fully remote working 5 days a week. Hurray, I thought. I applied, interviewed, onboarded, worked, and shadowed others all online. It felt different, like I was missing something. I missed that new job feeling, that one like new school years with a fresh notebook, pens, and outlook (just me?). Where you meet everyone and chat in person, move around the office to shadow others and learn real experience. It wasn’t there, I felt very siloed and actually missed working in an office with people. 👇 Then we arrive at today. I own my own business, and as my own boss I can choose whatever way of working I prefer. After much thought, and attempting to keep working from home, it still wasn’t productive for me. So I reached out, found other freelancers, and picked days where we could co-work in the same space. It means for the days I need to sit down and crack on, I can at home. But the days where I need to shoot the sh*t and talk ideas aloud, I can absolutely do that and get that collaborative creativity back. I absolutely agree that flexible working should be for everyone. Especially in creative roles, you sometimes need to reset and just get some headspace. But you also need the collaboration of real world people around you. An idea can come from anywhere, and that can’t always happen when you are in a room at home on a screen. What’s your preferred method of working? Do you enjoy the commute? Did anybody actually work when Tiger King started streaming? #flexibleworking #freelancer #workfromhome

Strategic analyst & consultant with a desire and ability to help identify problems and formulate effective business solutions; currently working with the federal government in the rural business sector.
Return to in-office work has been a hot topic of late; what do employers want, what to employees want, what is the most conducive to growth and success, etc. I think for me, I have a good thing going right now. I spend part of my time in the office, and part of my time is remote, and were I to find a new opportunity, that would be the ideal situation. Perhaps strange to some, would be the idea that I would--if given such a limited set of choices--I would opt to go full-time office as opposed to full time remote if I were to leave and work elsewhere. In my jobs feed, I see so many advertised opportunities for remote work for companies whose location is much too far to commute to...and I know a thing or two about LONG commutes! This is not to say I want to go into the office more often than I do now though. If a person is looking at new opportunities would full remote work be one of the main selling points for you? I just think that a person benefits greatly from being in-office when starting at a new job; perhaps more so than at an existing one. But that's me.

Supporting UK businesses with Email Inbox Management, Social Media support and Administrative Assistance 👩🏼💻 Taking on the background tasks so you can focus on business growth
🏠💻 Work-from-home has taken the world by storm! Let's be real, who wouldn't want to swap a daily commute for a cosy corner of their home? But I get it, not every employer is convinced. Some still worry about the quality of work when it's not happening under their watchful eye in the office. As a virtual assistant, I totally understand where they're coming from. It’s the same feeling clients might have when they first think about working with someone like me. "Will the work be as good? Will they really get things done?" 🤔 But here’s the thing: this is my business, and I’m here to deliver nothing but top-notch work! I know that doing a great job is the key to keeping my current clients happy and attracting new ones. Today, I managed to sit in my garden (yes, with a fresh load of laundry flapping on the line 🌬️👕), while helping a client declutter and organise their inbox. Talk about multitasking, right? Cheers to making remote work work! #WorkFromHome #VirtualAssistant #RemoteWorkLife #ClientSuccess #MultitaskingMagic Side note - picture just for reference. My garden currently looks like the outdoor toys section of Smyths just vomited all over it.

Rushing through the traffic, today I was thinking on how much time I spend over the years commuting to my jobs. Driving or in a bus, taking trams or also in the summer by bicycle. I loved that after pandemic, home office was an option. Maybe I am an introvert and I like sleeping in the morning, but I would never ever go back to full time office 9h/day + lunch time. I am getting older, and time is the only currency that I am not getting back. So, is the current company where you work putting pressure to people come back in the office? Name few companies that are calling people back in the office and how you feel about it. #homeoffice #commuting #backtooffice #timenevergoesback #HRpolicies
