It's Earth Day again. Did you keep up the changes you adopted from the last earth day? Will you set new challenges this year? The theme is Planet vs. Plastics this year Unfortunately or not this, out of all the environmental changes we can make, is the easiest and the hardest. Easiest, in the fact that we can make changes to glass storage, paper straws, fabric shopping bags, etc., and a lot of us have. Hardest, in the fact that plastic production is a global industry valued over $500 billion and an industry that lucrative is going to be hard to slowdown. If we all take the easy route, we might be able to fight the hardest.

Today on #EarthDay, Pacific Environment is honored to be on the ground at #INC4, the fourth round of the United Nations’ Global Plastics Treaty talks. We are here in Ottawa, Canada alongside concerned citizens, scientists and advocates from around the world to show world leaders how much we all care about the harms of plastic in our communities and why a Global Plastics Treaty is so necessary.  🗣️🪧   “We need our governments to reduce the production of plastics based on global planetary boundaries, eliminating toxics and single use plastics. We need solutions based on science and Indigenous knowledge, including reuse systems, instead of false solutions such as waste to energy, chemical recycling, and plastic credits. We need a just transition and centering of Indigenous peoples. We need corporate transparency and accountability mechanisms, and a clear conflict of interest policy for the treaty talks. We have so much evidence of the harms of plastic to our planet, to our health.
