Last week the inaugural Bloomberg Green Festival kicked off in Seattle - a gathering of innovative minds, set on exploring new solutions that span the climate spectrum. Feeling truly at home, it was a pleasure to have Notpla's seaweed-based, #plasticfree solutions also make their US debut in such a pivotal space. Some 10,000 attendees got hands-on with our foodservice products, experiencing how seaweed can revolutionise everyday items and displace plastic at scale. Our all-natural Ice Cream Spoons and seaweed-coated food packaging slipped into foodservice effortlessly, providing all of the functionality with none of the harmful plastic waste. Thanks to our partners at Earth Brands for bringing our latest innovation to such a poignant event. Finally, for all the waste-management fans out there - just look at those bins and signage - a true thing of beauty! #BBGreenFestival, Bloomberg News, Bloomberg, Kate Howells (formerly Gunn), Felippe Velloso, Brian Strong

Happy #EarthDay 🌎 here's some of the ways we’re celebrating sustainability on campus... 💚 No extra charge if you choose a plant-based milk for your morning coffee. 🌿 Get an extra 50p off your hot drink when you bring your own reusable cup! 🧃There are now no single-use plastic bottles in our drinks range. 🧩 You can refill your water bottle with cool filtered water from fountains across campus. 🌱 You no longer have to pay for plastic sauce sachets, because they’re gone (as is the extra charge). 🥗 You’ll also notice more veggie-focused options on our menu. 🔋 Did you know you can recycle batteries and vape pens on campus? ♻️ Our take-away foods are served in compostable containers by Vegware, so you can recycle those too. We know it’s #EarthDayEveryday so these initiatives aren’t just for today — they’re for good. 💚

A stain on the cup is better than a stain on the environment 🌎🌱 At Barista, we understand the significance of every cup we serve. But beyond perfecting the art of coffee, we recognize our role in protecting the environment as responsible corporate citizens. By introducing compostable sugarcane lids in June 2023, Barista saved an impressive 2,650 kg of plastic from only the lids by March 2024, making our coffee cups 100% biodegradable. By embracing our sugarcane coffee cups and reducing waste, we accept the occasional stain on our coffee lids as a small price to pay for a cleaner planet. Each coffee stain on our cups symbolizes a step away from disposable habits and a move towards sustainability. This World Environment Day, let’s celebrate the stain on our cup as a pledge to our commitment to a greener, healthier world. Every stain is a mark of progress in our journey to preserve the environment for future generations. #worldenvironmentday

We empower creative chefs to bring the farm into their kitchen by offering innovative greenhouses, designed to easily grow microgreens, herbs and salad leaves, right in the heart of your restaurant.
🌱 It's time to rethink how greens are used in restaurants! 🌱 Have you ever noticed how much plastic packaging is left behind after every delivery of greens? Each portion, each bunch wrapped in plastic… And that plastic ends up in landfills, taking centuries to decompose. But there’s a better way — grow your greens right in your restaurant with our compact greenhouses. Fresh, local, zero waste. 🌿 Why continue supporting single-use consumption when you can be part of the solution and reduce your business's environmental footprint? By growing your greens on-site, you eliminate the need for plastic packaging, cutting down on waste while offering your guests the freshest ingredients possible. 🤔 Are you ready to rethink your habits for the sake of the environment and your restaurant?

🌍 Week two. One small thing. 🌍 Last week, I shared my aspirations to make a positive impact on the planet and humanity. Often I feel overwhelmed by all the things you hear about the state of the planet. It makes me feel a lot better when I focus on changes I can make. This week it really is a small one with the opportunity to make a huge impact... ☕ Single use coffee cups. I mean, we all have re-usable ones, right? But how many hundreds of times have you left it at home/left it on the train/in the car etc? So here is my promise to you this year. I will only buy take out coffee if I have my own reusable cup with me. If I don’t have it, I won’t buy it. Simple. Could you imagine if we ALL followed suit. That nobody bought coffee in single use cups? Maybe coffee shops would stop buying the cups and the plastic tops? 2.5 Billion coffee cups are used and thrown away in the UK each year. 1/4 of these are recycled. That means 1.75 Billion go into landfill. Or end up in the ocean. By embracing this small change, we have the power to make a monumental difference. Will you join me in the pledge to stop consuming coffee from throwaway cups? One small thing… and one massive opportunity to make a difference right here and now. Please do share this post with anyone you know who might want to join. Lucy Cleland, Andy Hawkins, Rupen Desai, Thomas Bourne, Luke Wretham, Joe Roberts-Walker, Laura Harnett, Seep, Mahira Kalim, James Rees, Nancy Hyne BEng MSc, Theresa Dunthorne, Leigh Scholefield, Deanna Roberts, Richard Coles, Michael Anderson, Courtney Cesari, Laura Matz #OneSmallThing #Sustainability #CoffeeCupRevolution

Imagine sitting down to dinner, and your only option is a plate of plastic. Sounds absurd, right? Yet, that’s what we’re serving up to our seabirds every day. Plastic pollution is like an invisible hand feeding our oceans—and it’s choking the life out of them. But here’s the kicker: These birds aren’t just dining on plastic; they’re passing it down the food chain. From the depths of the ocean to our own dinner tables, plastic is making its way back to us, one bite at a time. So, what’s on your plate today? Let’s break this toxic cycle. It’s time to rethink our relationship with plastic before it’s too late. 🌍 #plasticpollution #plasticwaste #saveplanet #saveouroceans #saynotoplastic #quitplastic #microplastics #oceanpollution
