A Master Class in customer service from Zuppardos The day before Thanksgiving, I went to Zuppardo's (a local grocery store) to get what Michelle needed for the next day. She was making special things, so the list was one I wasn't used to executing. Near the front of the store, I started looking at row signs to see where I should begin. The owner, Joey Zuppardo, asked, "Is there anything you need?" Trying to be light, I walked over to him, holding the list, and asked, "I know you're the owner of the store and all, but could you go get these things for me?" He said, "No, but I can tell you what aisles they're on." He proceeded to take the list out of my hand and sit at his desk, which is near the front door of the store. He began to write and to bark out commands (to me and one of his employees). "Chopped almonds are right there on that table." "Chopped dates are on aisle 2." I asked him if I could take his picture as he did his gracious work. "No, don't take my picture." He then finished his masterpiece and handed it back to me. For each item was the aisle number. Consistency - I learned very early in my retail career that consistency is key to creating lifetime clients. From our very first dispensary, I implemented a basic phone script: “Good afternoon (morning, evening), thank you for calling (store name). This is Jeff, how may I assist you?”. The script is simple; but this simple script makes a big difference when customers call. Taken one step further, you can tailor your phone script to closely match your in-store welcome script. It’s the consistency of receiving the same customer service over the phone and in person. Every. Single. Time.

👑 Is the customer still king? 👑 Have you ever experienced the hustle and bustle of Gateville Market on a Saturday? It's a vibrant scene with vendors selling their products, especially the selection of fruit stalls offering a variety of quality fruits and vegetables. I enjoy supporting smaller stands not just for their excellent service but also for the relationships I've cultivated over the years. However, this past Saturday, my experience took an unexpected turn. I encountered a new helper with quite an attitude that left much to be desired. Needless to say, I quickly moved on to another stall. But then, I found myself back at the sweet stand, contemplating my favorite treats. Here, this gentleman went above and beyond by inviting me to taste without any obligation to purchase. His confidence in his product and his commitment to customer satisfaction spoke volumes. And yes, because of his genuine interaction and assurance of quality, I left with three bags of sweets, despite there being no real necessity to buy them. In my sales background, I've seen firsthand the impact of exceptional service on customer loyalty. Clients would travel far to purchase our products, and even after a year, they'd return, sometimes just to say hello or bring us snacks. It's all about how we treat our customers during and after the sale. I think my 6-year old twins are ready to work in QSR. Our convo on the way to school today: Liv & Ellie: Why didn't you pick up Starbucks like always? ☕ Me: Eh, it's gotten so expensive, I'm thinking I don't need to pick it up every day. (NOTE: We all have a willingness to pay ceiling, I finally hit mine when my drink exceeded $7(!) 💸 Image of the culprit below) Liv & Ellie: The coffee guy will be sad not to see you, doesn't he want sales? Maybe they should lower their prices so people come in more. The traffic vs check conundrum in a nutshell: A $5 drink x 5 days a week or A $7 drink x 2 days a week. $25 in weekly customer revenue vs $14. Traffic and frequency take a hit with price taking. Optimal pricing maintains traffic and frequency - and maximize sales (and customer satisfaction). 💡 There is only so much price you can take. All consumers all have a threshold they won't cross, call mine 7 🙃

The headline was catchy enough to read into the details and I think this article does a great job of pointing out the nuances of how to handle customer concerns, and the pitfalls that can come with not handling them correctly. The motto should probably be "The Customer Always Matters."

Are you customer obsessed? I am 🙋♀️ One of my first jobs was at a pizzeria in Chicago. Above the phones was a quote that has always stuck with me: "It takes months to find a customer and seconds to lose one" ~ Vince Lombardi. Everyone has a role in customer loyalty, and it starts internally. It is the way you treat your employees/colleagues. It is the service that you provide to one another. It is putting the customer at the forefront of every decision. Chewy has been known for its outstanding customer service that goes above and beyond for its customers. The picture below is one small example of how they get it - they do right by their customer. They alerted me and provided a solution. It made my life easier. This in turn is why I remain a loyal customer. Solve your customer's problems and provide outstanding service and your customers will remain. What are you doing to keep your customers/clients?

When we talk about how to build customer loyalty and keep it, this is what it looks like. - Coop in Sweden wished happy birthday to their most loyal customer on his 90th birthday with a present card and flowers. - It is good to see that such a big company like Coop can act like a small enterprise and show that every customer is important.
