Today, the mainstream method used to produce pCAM hydroxide is the co-precipitation method using raw materials as nickel sulfate, cobalt sulfate, manganese sulfate, ammonia, and sodium hydroxide, with its main process described as to simultaneously precipitate different metal ions in an aqueous solution to form a mixed metal hydroxide pCAM. 🔳Clinker Minor Components 🪨: ⏭️In addition to the 4 major oxides (CaO, Al2O3, Fe2O3, SiO2) many other compounds will often be present in the fuels and raw materials and subsequently in the cement clinker such as MgO, Alkalies (K2O, Na2O), and SO3. 1️⃣MgO (0-5%): Some MgO is built into the clinker minerals and high contents of MgO may cause expansion during hydration (MgO + H2O ——> Mg(OH)2). 2️⃣Alkalies: Some of the Na2O and K2O is built into the clinker minerals C3A, C4AF and C2S. Most of the remaining alkalies will remain water soluble. If the alkalies are not balanced by sulphates they will remain very volatile and can accumulate in the volatile circulation between kiln and preheater. 3️⃣Sulphates SO3: Sulphates may be present in the clinker up to about 3%. The sulphates in the clinker come from the fuel and possibly the raw materials. Sulphur in raw materials can increase SOx emissions and cause build- up in the preheater tower. Sulphate can form a stable compound with Potassium (K2SO4) and to a lesser extent Sodium (Na2SO4). The alkali sulphates melt at ~880-1100°C and form an early and minor melt phase which can facilitate some of the clinker formation reactions. If burning zone temperatures are high or there are reducing conditions in the kiln the alkali sulphates can become volatile and accumulate in volatile circulation. #cement #cementplant #cementindustry #kiln #operation
