Victories. We all need them - big and small. For some it is landing the big contract, receiving an industry award, joining a new company or getting that promotion you have been working so hard towards. Through hard work, we at Veritas Studio Wines have achieved some big victories - “BEST OF” from a local magazine four years running; Yes, sales are strong, despite the industry being sluggish; and I cannot believe it - we will celebrate our 10th anniversary this October. I am lucky - as we also receive little victories almost every day. Sure, I am simply doing my job the way I do it - which includes greeting customers with a handshake or a hug, a conversation about work, or the kids. And then down to business and picking tonight’s wine. I remember a lunch I had with an old boss at Madison Square Garden. After an hour or so of catching up over gnocchi and Chianti - explaining what I do, and the day-to-day tasks involved with being a wine merchant - my lunch partner folded his napkin and asked “What is the best thing about what you do?” Taking a moment - my answer needed to be spot on. “The best thing about what I do (pausing)… is that I am involved with my customer’s most important decision of their day” - - “What wine to pair with dinner, to celebrate a promotion, to welcome over an old friend, to patch things up with their better half.” He seemed very satisfied with my response. It is true - at Veritas Studio Wines - we help complete people’s day on an up note - with a nice glass of wine - to unwind, relax, and reward. Yes - Best Wine Shop in Hell’s Kitchen is great - Sales growth, media coverage, celebrating our 10th year this Fall - all fantastic. But the thanks we get from our customers on a day-to-day basis, means as much to us, if not more. So the next time you’re looking for that big victory that may only come once a year - don’t ignore the little ones - They add up. Cheers.

Insights gathered over the years: - Not every brand can achieve the status of Tito’s or Casa Amigos. - Launching a brand effectively in the US requires a substantial investment of 20-30 million dollars. - Essential to have team members with strong industry connections in both national and local markets to collaborate with distributor sales consultants and managers. - Develop a comprehensive plan aligned with the distributor's goals. - Begin with a modest approach, focusing on a maximum of three states initially. - Emphasize Social Media engagement and forge partnerships with reputable retailers and restaurateurs to enhance brand visibility and traction. - Senior leaders should dedicate a day each week to engaging with the market, fostering relationships, and staying abreast of industry trends and market dynamics. - Collaborate closely with distributor partners to assess data, monitor brand performance, and maintain open communication. - Prioritize brand reorders and sales velocity to ensure distributor sales consultants can maximize commissions and deliver value to customers. Remember the old saying at Seagram that Captian Morgan Rum was an overnight success that only took 15 years. Be patient and don’t give up. Keep Punching!!!!!
