This is going to be a bit of a long post and I'm sure it will be met with some negative feedback, but here goes. So often on this platform, I read post from former broadcasters, about "freeing themselves" from the shackles of a business that no longer cares for its communities and eats its young. They advocate for others to join them and finally have a "life you can call your own". Yes; I know. The industry is not what it was when many of us made the decision to join its ranks. And I know as well as anyone the toll the hours, demands and unpredictability of the business can take on your family. Shout out to my husband of 33+ years and two adult children that know no other life with me. But here's the thing, the problem may not be the industry but the people you surround yourself with. Because last week, was one of the most rewarding of my career as a local broadcaster, because I am surrounded by the right people, who are committed to the core values of this calling. What WXII 12 Triad CW did in conjunction with our community partners at Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and the #RedCross to support our neighbors in Western North Carolina is why we should *all* want to be local broadcasters. Our license calls on us to serve in the best interest of our communities. And I am so proud of how we not only served but led the relief efforts here in the Piedmont-Triad. And it's why you have to ask yourself is it the industry or perhaps the people I work for and with? Finally, if you have it in your hearts and wallets to give, please do. With another hurricane taking aim at the southeast, the time is now for all of us to take action and take care. #localbroadcast #HearstTelevision #SecondHarvestFoodbankofNorthwestNorthCarolina #AmericanRedCross #Helene
In times of adversity, the people of North Carolina unite in a remarkable display of compassion and resilience. We have personally witnessed acts of bravery and fortitude across our state, and we acknowledge your invaluable support with deep gratitude. Through the collaborative relief efforts at WXII 12, the American Red Cross North Carolina, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, we have successfully raised critical funds and essential supplies to aid our fellow mountain communities in western Carolina. While the recovery journey is just beginning, your unwavering generosity will undoubtedly make a meaningful impact on our neighbors in need. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who have contributed, volunteered, and dedicated themselves tirelessly to this cause. #hurricanerelief #northcarolina #piedmonttriad Hearst Television

Many of you know that I have the honor of serving on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (#HabitatLA). Recognizing that #HabitatLA is uniquely positioned to support the short and long-term ReBUILDing efforts (as was done during the Creek fire a few years ago (https://lnkd.in/g_ecUDBj), #HabitatLA announced a couple of days ago that we are launching ReBUILD LA®, a long-term emergency response campaign aimed at helping those affected by these devastating fires. Donations to the ReBUILD LA® campaign will: --Help those who have lost everything rebuild or relocate, ensuring they have a safe place to call home. --Provide essential goods through gift cards to purchase food and other necessary items. --Support households whose homes are uninhabitable with rental or mortgage assistance and other intermediate housing needs. --Replace home furnishings with vouchers for Habitat’s ReStores. --Offer assistance to vulnerable survivors who have been left without options to afford housing. So many have been impacted in this time of great tragedy, and many are looking for ways to help - please join me and many others by making a personal and corporate donation today that will help families ReBuild their lives. 💔 Our Hearts Go Out to Everyone Affected by the Los Angeles Wildfires The devastation caused by the LA wildfires is unimaginable—over 37,000 acres burned, 12,000+ structures destroyed, 150,000 displaced, and 24 precious lives lost. Here’s how you can make a difference from afar: 1️⃣ Support Long-Term Recovery: Donate to organizations that provide lasting resources like housing and community rebuilding. 2️⃣ Give Thoughtfully: Instead of overwhelming shelters with items, consider contributing essentials like toiletries or connecting directly with families in need. 3️⃣ Donate Safely: Trust only verified organizations, such as: 🔗 California Fire Foundation: https://loom.ly/6Vpe70c 🔗 LAFD: https://loom.ly/2vmGhQ8 🔗 American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles: https://loom.ly/mnsd2q0 🔗 Center for Disaster Philanthropy: https://loom.ly/a1Zyr8Y 🌟 Every act of kindness counts. As someone who recently moved to the Los Angeles area, I’ve been heartbroken by the devastation caused by the wildfires. It’s been incredible to see the community come together. Through Stashlete, Inc., the platform I work with, you can support multiple nonprofits working on wildfire relief in one place. You won't have to click through endless links or manage separate donations. Here are just some of the incredible organizations already on our platform doing great work to help those affected by the fires: 🤝 Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation 🤝 American Red Cross 🤝 Direct Relief 🤝 World Central Kitchen 🤝 Project HOPE 🤝 National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) 🤝 Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) 🤝 LAIT911 FIRE 🤝 Salvation Army I understand that it’s natural to be cautious about scams or people taking advantage of the situation in times like these. Please know that’s not what this is about. My goal is simply to make it easier for people to help. If you’d prefer not to donate through Stashlete, I encourage you to visit the websites of these organizations directly and contribute there—every dollar truly makes a difference. If you’d like to donate through Stashlete, you can find the link to sign up in the link below. Together, we can help make a real difference for those who need it most. https://lnkd.in/eacvkDqy

Besides the American Red Cross and the Humane Society in Helene affected areas, also consider donating to groups coming into rescue with vital supplies to cut off Mountainous areas. There are mule teams going in. Also helicopters. These are the people coming from far and wide to help as there are so many people in need. The groups doing helicopter drops need fuel, and access to fuel. Any thing any body and can to help this process please make the time to do it. United Cajun Navy is one such group flying in life saving supplies. I contact them to find out about making donations and what they needed. I was told, fuel. And Access to more fuel. Too let's stop talking about politics and who won a debate or not and get down to taking care who are in and face unsurmountable challenges. If this organization isn't your thing, find one that is and donate money and time to helping if you can not be physically there. Whether it's American Red Cross, Humane Society, private corporations willing to help, non-profit organizations already on the ground, all of us need to pitch in. It may not have been you and your family this time, but next time? Respond. https://lnkd.in/gUiTK3Vn
