🤘 Finally Made it >>>>> DESIGN SYSTEM
I am in the fastest-growing startup in the industry, where many great designers have worked on our product in the past. Yes, they were absolutely talented and imaginative, but the problem came with design styles—everyone had their own flair. It felt like our product was a collage of various artistic expressions, like having a medieval knight next to a futuristic robot in the same room. ⚔️🤖 LOL, we weren't suffering that much, but we could see some noticeable differences in style!
Now we got the golden opportunity to redesign our whole product. So, we decided to start by creating a design system. We tried to build every component right from the start, but after stakeholder meetings, we had to change it again and again. It was like trying to build a house of cards during an earthquake! 🃏🏠
After finalizing the major screens, we found a design style that suited our user base, stakeholders, and, of course, ourselves too. 😂 This alignment was crucial because it meant that everyone, from the users to the stakeholders, felt that the design truly represented our brand and its values.
Then the real work started for the design system. We began defining every detail, from how buttons should look and behave to the proper use of toggles and other interactive elements. We considered every possible parameter: the states of each element (hover, active, disabled, etc.), their usability across different devices and contexts, and ensuring consistency throughout the product. It was essential to create a system that would not only meet our current needs but also be scalable for future developments.
After numerous iterations and refinements, we finally came up with the Netradyne Design System (NDS). This system will serve as the foundation for all our future designs, ensuring a cohesive and efficient design process.
Proud to have completed this journey! A huge thank you to Hemanth B for giving me the opportunity to work on this and for the incredible support from the Design team 🤜 🤛 .
