Stepping into the world of prevention was a leap into the unknown, but from day one, I resonated with our GBU's motto: 'A world in which no one suffers or dies from a vaccine-preventable disease’. Now we are “chasing the miracles of science to improve people’s lives” and everyday I found a purpose to continue my journey in Sanofi and became an ambassador of the vaccines from the start. I encountered numerous challenges along the way, but with the unwavering support of my managers and colleagues, I persevered. Loving what you do, focusing on the lives we save, and maintaining a constant curiosity to learn something new every day became my driving force. I learned the value of exploration, pushing beyond my limits, sharing experiences, and staying loyal to the cause. About a year ago I received the great opportunity to contribute to the team from a different position, taking on the role of a customer engagement manager, and I am very proud and happy of this new challenge. Despite my seniority in the GBU, I recognized that I still had much to learn, and I'm thrilled to be part of a team where mutual learning and support are essential. Sanofi, to me, is more than just a workplace; it's my home. It's a place where we receive unwavering support, grow, learn, and develop ourselves. I am happy to share that I accepted expanded responsibilities in advancing & maximizing Teva global Pivot to Growth strategy in Europe while we are searching for best candidates on several opened positions in our new structure. In addition to overseeing Italy and SEE countries, I will for now be responsible for commercial operations in more countries—France, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Portugal, collectively forming the South East Europe. Returning to oversee operations in Poland and surrounding countries, which I led for several years, is a great opportunity to intensify relations with my colleagues there. Concurrently, I will maintain my position as OTC Global Head.   This new organizational structure empowers us to prioritize growth, make swift decisions, and streamline our business operations. I believe this approach will enable us to harness diverse talents, explore emerging markets, and shape our presence both in Europe and globally. We eagerly anticipate how these new ways of working will strengthen our commitment to patients and customers.     In the dynamic landscape of our industry, these news ways of working underscore our dedication to staying ahead. ↗ Upping the volume 🔊 , we've got 3 more dynamic leaders to roll out this week, so let's get started! 🚀🌟 The next professional to join me on the #50lunches50leaders series 🍽 is Yoshiko Kadoya-Hattori,MBA 🚀🌟.        Working as a pharmacist the first 6️⃣ years of her career, she then commenced her pharma life with Sosei Heptares where she remained for a further 6️⃣ years. After establishing ⚒ their RA organisation & being there through the development of an ⛑ Emergency Contraception product & the IPO process, she then took a new challenge at Sanofi. Over the following dozen years, she held down several key 🔑 innovative leadership posts including a combined 4 years at their US 🇺🇸 and France 🇫🇷 offices. Her primary career at Sanofi included nearly 🔟 years in vaccine development & policy activities, contributing to launching the first foreign vaccine 💉 approved in Japan & expanding the Japanese 🇯🇵 vaccine market. Her global experience allowed her to closely experience the differences in ways of thinking/working, which inspired her to aspire to leadership roles with a global 🌏 perspective in Japan. Stepping out of her comfort zone, the next challenge 💪 she took on was with a brand new ⚡ market entrant into Japan, Zogenix, Inc.. As the RA Head, General Marketing Compliance Officer (GMCO) & first 🥇 official hire, she started up the Japanese entity & achieved the filing of the JNDA for the principal rare epilepsy drug in one year with a small but dynamic 🎆 team, before being acquired by UCB in mid-2022. Staying on as a Global Regulatory Lead these past 20 months 🗓, she now works across all therapeutic areas. "When I reflect on leadership & my own journey 🚶♀️, I feel it really comes down to effective communication as being the key ingredient. In all my global postings, I was made to feel welcome, accepted, supported & most importantly, valued, by all the new teams I'd been a part of 🤝.  With these memories in mind, I always endeavor to make members under me feel the same way. I can only do so by effectively communicating 💬 with them & continually letting them know that we are in it 'together'. Lastly, I'm not always perfect and of course, make mistakes. Encouraging my members to take full ownership of their roles, knowing that by doing so, there'll likely be some 🤕 bumps in the road 🛣, is completely fine. Such experiences are opportunities to learn & grow together." Timing-wise ⏰, I was quite lucky to get this session in with Yoshiko before her next international assignment. She kindly shared with me over lunch her acceptance of a new global RA role at the UCB HQ in Brussels 🇧🇪 and was due to fly out 🛫 the following day! 1 year and 8 days as part of Novo Nordisk. That calls for celebration! We often say that Novo Nordisk is a 100 year old organization that is growing like a start-up. And yes, the last year has been quite a ride. An astonishing financial result for 2023. Record amount of live-saving medicine to patients. New markets reached. And promising products in the pipeline. But when I go to work, what I truly cherish and celebrate today, is this: -         Extraordinary passionate people that care about what they do and who they do it for: Patients -         Nerdiness on a higher level with colleagues always eager to share their insights -         Fast route to the top when you have a great idea and fast execution when it is approved -         The slides are not consultant creative but the content is heavy as hell But most of all I cherish laughter. I am back in Singapore for a couple of weeks to connect with colleagues, align on corporate priorities and workplan for the year ahead. The familiar humidity and warmth has been quite the contrast from the negative 30 degrees Celsius I left behind in Chicago. ❄ Speaking about the cold, well-meaning predecessors have warned of the inevitability of cold meetings in the field – and they weren't entirely wrong. Over the past two years, I have encountered my fair share of slammed doors and abruptly concluded meetings. However, my time has also been marked by incredibly rewarding collaborations with some of the world's leading corporations, including P&G, Medtronic, Rockwell, AbbVie, and Eli Lilly. An example of a successful collaboration is AbbVie's recent announcement – a decade after opening its doors in Singapore – of a US$223 million expansion of its manufacturing facility here. This development is set to create over 100 jobs and establish Singapore as a central hub in AbbVie's global network for biologics bulk drug substance manufacturing. This also comes on the back of a successful decade of partnership between AbbVie and the EDB in Singapore and the culmination of of hard work from past and present generations of AbbVie and EDB officers. Witnessing the genuine excitement and positive energy of the AbbVie Singapore team during the groundbreaking ceremony was a timely reminder of the importance in finding meaning in one’s work. The typical question I get while back in Singapore is if I dread returning to wintry Chicago. My answer? The cold never bothered me anyway.
