You can announce it or keep it quiet, but it doesn't have to be praised from above, or sanctioned in advance. It was great to work with the brilliant Shahina Kabir, Nancy Hey, Ingrid Abreu Scherer and Joanne Smithson to pull together this round up of What Works Centre for Wellbeing outputs and impact on Place & Community from 2014-2024. It's a whistle-stop tour through the key impacts, learnings and resources, acting as a repository for this knowledge and a springboard for next steps in terms of research, commissioning and practice. November, which is globally recognized as Men’s Health Awareness Month, provides an opportunity to engage in open conversations around the often overlooked and stigmatized mental and physical health challenges faced by men. As an organization committed to cultivating a workplace culture that prioritizes employee wellbeing, we initiated a month-long campaign which focused on Men’s Health. One of the many initiatives taken revolved around encouraging our male colleagues to participate in the global No-Shave November campaign and use their growing beards as an opportunity to create further awareness about men’s health issues. While the awareness building communication campaign highlighted what can be the potential physical and mental health concerns and how to identify them, our efforts did not end there as it was important to bring an expert into the conversation. We hosted an interactive and engaging awareness session at our Head Office which was live streamed for those at other locations. The session was led by Dr. Jawed Iqbal, FRCPI, FFOM, MBA – GSK’s Cluster Occupational Health Physician for Middle East and Pakistan. The session focused on how men should navigate the landscape of wellness, highlighting the physical health challenges faced by men in Pakistan, and advocating for lifestyle changes. It not only emphasized the importance of mental wellbeing, resilience, and positive thinking but also provided attendees with tools and resources to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing. A small token was provided as a reminder that one cannot pour from an empty cup, and they must prioritize their physical and mental wellbeing for themselves and their loved ones. We hope to continue our efforts in shaping a workplace culture that nurtures the holistic wellbeing of every individual, in turn fostering a brighter and healthier future for all. This week we recognise Men’s Health Week, which is held on 10-16th June 2024, and is a dedicated to shine the spotlight on the unique health concerns that men experience.  It’s a reminder of the importance of proactively addressing and managing health issues by encouraging men to take charge of their physical and mental well-being, make informed decisions about their lifestyle choices, and seek appropriate medical support when needed. To promote a culture of well-being at iconsys, we have a dedicated team of wellbeing champions. Our wellbeing champions meet regularly to share ideas and strategies to help support their colleagues.  Our wellbeing champions promote, identify and signpost ways to support our employees when they are in need.  As well as having our own group of wellbeing champions, we have many resources in place, including our wellbeing pages on our intranet and our Employee Assistance Program, which gives #teamiconsys access to trained counselling and cognitive behaviour therapy support. August 1 marks the beginning of National Wellness Month and we’re here to provide an option for prioritizing self-care, managing stress, and creating healthier habits. Lawyers tend to personify “resilience” and “grit.” These are qualities that often mean great success in running a practice. But they can also lead to stress and a general lack of self-care. One way to prioritize well-being is to establish community care, where the well-being of all members of a community is considered. Community care can be a holistic approach to wellness, with peer support, mentors, wellness committees, flexible work arrangements, employee assistance programs, and workshops and trainings all playing a role in helping lawyers to feel valued and supported.
