Thankful, energized and rather blown away…   I have spent the last 3 days on beautiful Bornholm with the DK-based leaders in Business Finance, reflecting on our purpose as leaders and persons, and how to become the best version of ourselves. A key focus of Novo Nordisk is to realize our purpose and while doing so, secure we grow our business and people in a sustainable way. Earlier this year, I have been fortunate to have a life changing development journey myself for which I am very grateful. It is very natural for me to want to give others a similar opportunity. Key observations:  1. It was fantastic to feel the trust within the team 🙏 2. The ability to show vulnerability was remarkable, and that is critical for us to change. 3. Our learning buddy setup was a key enabler for our development these days. 4. The level of  reflection was enabled by “being present”. We enjoyed being away from our digital devices and I believe that is needed to really focus our attention. I think many of us will experiment with this in the time to come (both in our professional and private life). 5. And within all the self-reflection, we had loads of fun and happy faces 😊   I am grateful to work with such a fantastic and talented team, and I can’t wait to see them develop further. This is how happy people at Boehringer Ingelheim look like 😊.   Last week, Alexandra Breiner and I had the honor to run a major global event for the largest business unit of Boehringer Ingelheim, Humanpharma: Intent Day ✨. Under the motto of “United by Intent - powered by you”, we organized 4 global virtual sessions that had been prepared by colleagues, for colleagues. Intent Day truly travelled around the globe as there were rebroadcasts for the Asian/Pacific region as well as for the Americas. In addition, our colleagues in the US, China, Japan and Germany organized local sessions. What an amazing journey 🚀!   All session teams had signed up voluntarily and went above and beyond their regular day jobs. Their commitment truly role-modelled our 5 core behaviors: taking accountability, making timely decisions, learning new things, constructively challenging each other, and listening to our patients. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed 🙏🌺!   Personally, I had three key learnings from Intent Day:   ➡ It came out clearly throughout the sessions that we are all human beings first and foremost, before being patients, supervisors, employees, or colleagues 👩👧👧. Let's treat each other with respect, listen carefully, and always assume good intentions.   ➡ In times of busyness and pressure, it is crucial to reflect on why and what we want to change moving forward. What brought us here may not be beneficial for our future. Investing time in self-reflection can lead to meaningful growth and progress.   ➡ Embracing new ways of working can be enjoyable and fulfilling 💪🔥! What a way to wrap up three weeks of business travel throughout Europe! I met with many amazing internal and external partners, visited five countries, four of which were first-time visits, and I celebrated my one-year anniversary with MilliporeSigma (Merck Group). I even got to have a reunion with a special former partner, Dagmar Schubert over dinner as it was a very short detour. I've learned so much, I don't even know where to begin. It has been quite a year. Last year, when I made the decision to embark on a new adventure, I didn't know what to expect and the unknown frightened me but excited me at the same time. I wasn't sure if I could do as well at a larger organization (imposter syndrome) and I remained consistent in the following ways to prepare myself for my new endeavor: - Communication: I communicated the responsibilities and assignments I was looking for to utilize and develop my skill set, as well as to keep me on my career road map. Thankfully, my leadership listened and took action. - Curiosity: I was open to live feedback, new experiences, new learnings, and the challenges (known and unknown). Thankfully, my curiosity didn't kill me. - Conscious development: I came into my role and new company with a 30/60/90 day plan and a road map. Thankfully, it wasn't deemed "too soon" for me to have a plan. - Networking: To be successful, I knew I had to know who my people resources were. Thankfully, everyone was willing to share their time and expertise! - Impact: I sought to make an impact wherever I was. Thankfully, the impact was measurable and visible. - Leadership: I sought to lead from where I was. Thankfully, it didn't come off as "bossy." To top off my Euro tour and one-year anniversary, I was nominated and accepted into Merck's High Potential Employee 2024 Cohort. I'm excited to explore the learning and networking opportunities this program brings in the year ahead. Now, I look forward to going home and spending quality time with my husband, daughter, and four-legged babies.

Last week, I had the privilege of connecting with our brilliant Novo Nordisk Graduate Fellows from all over the world about their future career journey. I was blown away by the passion and innovation in the room, inspired knowing the future of healthcare is in great hands! Career journey advice I shared: 1. Self-add “Infuse humanity, kindness, and decency” as a mandate into every single job description you take on 2. Ikigai: Build your career not around titles, but around attaining convergence to your ikigai (learning ikigai was their homework) 3. Take the harder assignments — you’ll learn more because you’ll be out of your comfort zone 4. Oscillate between Strategy and Operational roles — build both complementary leadership muscles (even if you prefer one). Too long in Strategy, you’ll live in the clouds. Too long in Operations, you’ll miss the forest for the trees. 5. Stay on the innovation edge thru a mindset of “how might we”, not “how have we” 6. Today earns your tomorrow. You earn your future opportunities every day in every role through the impact you make. “Love every idea for 5 minutes…” It’s a pretty good mantra wherever you are in the world but in a fast growing country like Brazil and a rapidly developing region like Latin America, it’s the only way to be! I love the spirit behind that thinking. When we’re doing business as usual, keeping things the same is the easy thing to do. It might feel like the right thing to do as well. Who wants to rock the boat if it’s going full steam ahead? But the reality is that business success (and LATAM is our fastest growing region) is an opportunity to create the future from a position of strength. And to achieve that you have to entertain ideas that might be uncomfortable. Or provoking. Or even seemingly wrong. At least for 5 minutes… If you still love the idea after that initial burst of energy, maybe it’s a seed for something that might last years. Thankfully in Brazil and LATAM, we have an engaged and talented group of colleagues with the ultimate can-do attitude. I can already imagine many of their ideas becoming something remarkable for all of us to share across Novo Nordisk.
