Happy Immunofluorescence Birthday!🎂 Today marks the celebration of Immunofluorescence Birthday. My first meeting with immunofluorescence during my internship left a lasting impression on me. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns on the computer screen, connected to the microscope, revealed an entirely new world. I couldn't stop taking pictures of the glowing cells, each one a moment of pure wonder. What is immunofluorescence? This technique allows us to visualize specific proteins in cells by illuminating them. Here's a quick overview: 1. Preparation: Cells or tissue samples are placed on slides to preserve their structure. 2. Primary Antibody: Apply a primary antibody that binds to the target protein. 3. Secondary Antibody:Add a secondary antibody that binds to the primary antibody and carries a fluorescent dye. 4. Visualization:Use a special microscope to make the dye glow, revealing the location of the protein. Why is it important? -Research: It helps scientists map the location of proteins, which is crucial for understanding cell function and diseases . - Diagnosis: Vital for diagnosing diseases by identifying protein markers. - Drug Development: Essential for observing how drugs interact with cells. Exposure to different sectors and industries equips researchers with new skills and perspectives, allowing them to grow both personally and professionally. 🚀 Embracing this mobility is fundamental for the advancement of scientific research. Therefore, during our program, we will implement measures designed to encourage our Fellows to explore a wide range of different sectors. 📈 Candidates must incorporate elements of cross-sectoral mobility and interdisciplinarity in their applications. This can be achieved through the inclusion of an intersectoral secondment, ranging from three to six months, with a company that aligns with the research focus. The quality of the secondments will be ensured through careful planning and coordination, and by utilizing a three-supervisor scheme that involves high-quality experts from both academia and industry. Unmasking Breast Cancer Biomarkers: A Journey of Discovery Today marks the end of my incredible internship journey! I'm grateful for the opportunity to reflect on my experience working on "Predictive Insights: Unmasking Breast Cancer Biomarkers through Machine Learning and Systems Biology." Key Takeaways: - Interdisciplinary approach: Combining machine learning, bioinformatics, and systems biology to tackle complex biological problems. - Data integration: Integrating transcriptomic data with clinical outcomes and pathway analysis provided valuable insights. - Collaboration: Working with a diverse team fostered a rich exchange of ideas and expertise. Project Highlights: - Identified 3 potential biomarkers (KRT17, KRT5, and FABP5) correlated with breast cancer progression. - Utilized machine learning algorithms (Random Forest, Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosting) and bioinformatics tools (DESeq2, SHINYGO). - Constructed protein-protein interaction networks and performed pathway enrichment analysis using KEGG. Future Directions: - Experimental validation of identified biomarkers. - Developing predictive models for personalized medicine. - Exploring therapeutic strategies targeting identified biomarkers and signaling pathways.
