Last month I was delighted to see the Clinical Service Journal (CSJ) publish an article on the need to level up care for people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which Takeda initiated and wrote in collaboration with Professor Ailsa Hart. The article draws on a Takeda report, titled Levelling up care for people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A spotlight on service exemplars, which was developed as part of Takeda’s 500,000 Reasons Why campaign. It highlights the current challenges in IBD care and importantly, the steps that should be taken to improve the care and treatment that people with IBD receive – including the importance of listening to patients, effective multidisciplinary team-working and greater use of remote monitoring technologies. If we can make positive change to IBD care and treatment, I believe we can make a truly meaningful difference to those living with IBD across the country no matter where they live, both now and into the future.
