Sensory Processing Disorder (Sensory Integrative Dysfunction) can impact the ability to prepare for sleep and to remain asleep for an adequate sleep cycle. The ability to shift from a waking daytime level of alertness to one that prepares the body and brain for sleep can be impaired in children with SPD. After ruling out biological causes, our recommendations center on alleviating difficulties with processing tactile, vestibular, proprioceptive, visual, and/or auditory information that directly impact the sleep cycle.
