At 3:30 on 9/30 seems like a perfect time to revisit 3x30 – Novelis’ bold, new vision for accelerating aluminum’s circularity and decarbonization that we unveiled one week ago today. In case you missed it, here are the three objectives we aim to achieve by the end of 2030: Highly Circular – 75% average recycled content Low Carbon – Less than 3 tonnes of CO2e per tonne of FRP shipped Industry Frontrunner – Continue investments to lead the industry to circularity Achieving these goals and leading the aluminum industry to a circular, low-carbon future depends upon collaboration across the value chain – and we are already working with our customers and suppliers to make it happen. 🤔 Transforming the Aluminium Industry- My Key Takeaways from the Global Aluminium Can Sustainability Summit... The future of packaging is here—and it's sustainable. This week, I had the privilege of attending the Global Aluminium Can Sustainability Summit, where industry leaders from around the world gathered to discuss one key question: ''How can we accelerate the shift toward a circular economy for aluminium cans?" Our task as industry stakeholders - whether we’re OEMs, suppliers, or recyclers, fillers, distributors -is to navigate this transition, improving recycling rates, ensuring sustainability across the value chain, and fostering collaboration among ALL players. The summit highlighted several critical actions: ✅ Collaboration is key! We need deeper partnerships between melters, suppliers, OEMs, canmakers, fillers, recyclers, fillers, distributors- to improve the traceability and transparency of recycling. ✅ Reliable data is a must! Accurate data collection and reporting are essential to achieving global recycling goals and building trust in the industry. ✅ Sustainability claims must be backed by transparent, verifiable data to avoid greenwashing and promote genuine circularity. With its unmatched recyclability and ability to reduce carbon footprints, aluminium is clearly emerging as the preferred packaging material for a more sustainable world. By working together, we can ensure that the aluminium can remains a game-changer in the fight against climate change - outperforming other materials, both in its environmental impact and long-term value. Yesterday, I facilitated one of the most engaging and lively panels I’ve ever experienced at the Circularity conference. The audience’s curiosity knew no bounds—everyone had a question! It was truly inspiring to witness the collective eagerness to explore the future of aluminium in a circular economy. Our discussion spanned critical themes: 🔄 Global supply chain circularity 🌱 Re-valorising mining outputs ♻️ Maximising metal recovery and recycling 🤝 Collaborative practices across the aluminium value chain The panel highlighted aluminium’s unique role as a key enabler of circularity. With its lightweight, durable, and infinitely recyclable nature, aluminium is more than just a material—it's a blueprint for the systems-level transformation we need. Special thanks to our expert panellists: 🌟 Pete Forakis, Rio Tinto Aluminium 🌟 Marghanita Johnson, Australian Aluminium Council 🌟 Luke Hawkins, Capral Aluminium Together, we delved into the opportunities and responsibilities inherent in Australia’s position as a global leader in aluminium production. From shifting our focus to a life of resource perspective to unlocking the immense value in existing aluminium stocks, the conversations were rich with insights and optimism. It’s fair to say everyone in the room walked away with a deeper understanding of the aluminium industry and its critical importance in creating a sustainable future. I’m grateful to have been part of such a transformative dialogue. Let’s keep pushing boundaries and building solutions that align with nature’s circular systems. Did you know there are three sources of recycling flat glass cullet ? 🏭Internal cullet : production yield losses at the glass production site, 🟩Pre-consumer cullet : cutting losses of flat glass panes occurring during the pre-processing and defective products at customers’ sites . 🟩Post-consumer cullet : flat glass waste generated at the end of life of the glazing product. 👉In 2023, about 118,000 tonnes of the remelted cullet at AGC came from the pre- and post-consumer route. ♻️More on glass recycling at AGC Glass Europe on https://lnkd.in/e7M5YPNM 👉Float cutting losses are usually uncontaminated and can return directly to the flat glass production.
