ICYMI: Denosumab is a drug that can be used in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) but has been linked with severe cases of hypocalcemia (low calcium levels). A recent study found that the overall risk of hypocalcemia with new denosumab use was low but increased substantially in those with more severe disease. World Sickle Cell Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 to increase public knowledge and understanding of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) it is characterized by the presence of abnormal hemoglobin, called hemoglobin S. This abnormal hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become rigid, sticky, and shaped like crescents or sickles. These irregularly shaped cells can block blood flow, leading to pain, infections, and potential complications such as organ damage, strokes and it impacts millions globally!
