With the Olympics now over, it's great to reflect on what a critical role the TIC sector plays in the success of the games. One of the most visible instances was the daily water quality checks in the Seine. These rigorous inspections were essential to ensure the water was free from harmful pollution, allowing swimmers to compete safely (still don't think we'd like to go for a swim in there though!). But the influence of TIC extends far beyond just water quality. From the precise certification of timing systems, to the inspection of venues, and the stringent anti-doping tests that uphold fair play, TIC is embedded in almost every aspect of the Olympics. Whether it's ensuring the safety of athletes, the accuracy of results, or the integrity of the competition, TIC quietly but powerfully supports the Olympic Games, helping to make sure everything runs smoothly and safely. Now when you catch up with the Paralympic events, know that behind every competition, there's a world of meticulous testing, inspection, and certification at work.

Not only is the Olympics an antiquated event that is being kept alive, every O'Games comes out with these dishonest facts being swept under the carpet by the organizers. This story means that The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) and the President of the IOC then and now, are on the take, or, being threatened with theirs and their families' lives, otherwise why would they both, allow this? More: "‘Fraught times’ Doping scandals are, of course, nothing new, and nor is the anti-doping regime carried out by bodies such as Wada and Usada (US Anti-Doping Agency). Transparency over how those agencies operate is critical to ensure trust. “Typically when an athlete tests positive, they’re provisionally suspended and that’s made public while the anti-doping process runs its course,” Kieran says. That did not happen in the case of the Chinese swimmers in 2021, some of whom went on to win medals in Tokyo. Wada did not declare the results, and the team’s performance was one of the best in Chinese swimming history. Wada says it followed the proper protocols, and that it was limited in what it could do due to pandemic restrictions in China. The explanation given by Wada and China’s own agency, Chinada, did not satisfy athletes, other regulatory bodies or government officials. Soon after the revelations became public, Wada appointed a special prosecutor to investigate how the regulator handled the positive results. Earlier this month, the independent review concluded that the agency’s decision was “indisputably reasonable”. Critics have called into question the independence of the review, while anti-doping groups FairSport and Global Athlete said the process was “inherently flawed from the outset”. They added that, “until all related documents are made public, trust in the system will not be regained and Wada’s position as the global regulator will continue to be challenged”. “These are fraught times,” says Kieran. “There are real concerns from a lot of swimmers about the integrity of the competition”. He also notes that these kinds of tensions are not novel – in 2019 the Australian swimmer Mack Horton protested against China’s Sun Yang at the world swimming titles because of doping allegations. “There’s every possibility that something really kicks off at the pool in Paris.”

Billiards? An Olympic Sport? Well, the overall image of billiards back in the 70's, 80's and 90's was not ideal, specially as a sport. It was considered mostly a hobby, a pastime activity, and entertainment. Nowadays, things have changed a lot. Thanks to those individuals, federations and companies who see it as a sport and do everything they can to push it forward, towards its inclusion to the Olympics of Brisbane 2032. Billiards have come a long way. Today, Billiards is a sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee – IOC, it is a member of ARISF, it works closely with World Anti-Doping Agency and it is included in The World Games 2025 in Chengdu. The WCBS - World Confederation of Billiards Sports, is spearheading the efforts by presenting the values of Billiards to the Australian Olympic Committee and Brisbane 2032. What do you all think? Should it remain a sport or is worth it becoming an Olympic Sport?

🥧 Every sport has its origin story, but only one began life as a pie and then became an Olympic sport. 🥧 In the early 20th century, not long after Pierre de Coubertin relaunched the modern Olympic Games, Yale University students noticed that their local pie tins zipped through the air like flying saucers. This quirky throwing trend spread throughout Connecticut’s university scene as the FRISBIE PIE COMPANY LTD discovered they’d inadvertently conceived a popular pastime. Today, the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) oversees national associations in 107 countries, with an estimated 10 million players worldwide. Trademarks mean you’ll not see the word Frisbee used officially - toy company Wham-O bought the rights from Morrison in 1957 before subtly altering the spelling - but flying disc disciplines include disc golf, freestyle, and ultimate. WFDF is an International Federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee – IOC and by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and the FISU - International University Sports Federation (FISU), the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF), the International World Games Association (IWGA), the International Masters Games Association (IMGA), and the TAFISA - The Association For International Sport for All. This is the sort of new sport for the 18-34 audience that the IOC have been monitoring. Frisbee Golf will feature at the 2024 Paris Olympics following the overwhelming success at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games. Watch the YouTube video recap below for highlights. 🚨 Update on the Chinese swimming fiasco: the World Anti-Doping Agency has called an ‘extraordinary meeting’ of the Foundation Board for this Friday, 17 May. The 42-member Foundation Board is WADA’s highest decision-making body, comprising (equally) representatives from the Olympic movement and public authorities. For instance, the Foundation Board was responsible for approving changes to WADA’s Statutes and Governance Regulations in June 2023 to implement wide-ranging reforms to WADA’s governance structure. Calling a meeting of this nature is not a decision WADA would have taken lightly, as it no doubt attempts to control/temper the (largely pejorative) narrative being disseminated in the media. When the positions of WADA and some of its stakeholders are so diametrically opposite, the lines between fact, fiction and conjecture can be increasingly difficult to determine. The objective of the meeting is purportedly to “provide members with the opportunity to be further informed on this important matter by WADA experts and to be able to ask any questions that they may have”. Interestingly, the Foundation Board meeting will be a public forum, which is therefore open to media (albeit those wishing to attend must register their request in advance). How tightly controlled the line of questioning will be remains to be seen. 10 weeks out from Paris 2024, Olympic integrity is under intense scrutiny, reputations are on the line, and cynicism abounds. #antidoping #wada #chinaswimming https://lnkd.in/eBAv_uWR

KEEP GOING, KEEP FIGHTING Congrats to Cheung Ka-long for taking home a gold for Hong Kong! The #Olympics are the pinnacle of achievement for any athlete in their respective field. What does it take to reach the pinnacle? One of the key factors is resilience: everytime you fail, you get back up and try again until you succeed. This is true in sports (one of the reasons I love surfing is every wipeout is a test of how much you want to get better) but also true in product. MOST of the features you launch will fail to have impact. MOST of the products you ship will not hit PMF. Even the best PMs have a mediocre-at-best batting ratio because user behaviour is hard to predict. What matters is shots on goal: how many times do you try, and how quickly are you trying again? "I think our spirit is to never give up, to try our best to get everything [and to give everything on the piste. I don’t want to have any excuses and waste my efforts from training. I just keep going, keep fighting. This is how it is." https://lnkd.in/gkeFrAsK
