The Greater Montreal Area (GMA) might already have a higher availability rate for life sciences space than Toronto or Vancouver, but new and repurposed facilities are continuing to be developed to keep up with the growing demand, reported Real Estate News Exchange (RENX). "CBRE just released its 2023 Montreal Lab Market Report and is tracking more than 5.6 million square feet of life sciences space, with an availability rate of 6.5 per cent, in the market. It’s comprised of a combination of research and development (R&D) and good manufacturing practices (GMP) facilities. 🔋 Lower Saxony's battery research gets new home at #TUBraunschweig The construction of the "Centre for Circular Production of Next Batteries and Fuel Cells (CPC)" has cleared an important hurdle: The Budget and Finance Committee of the Niedersächsischer Landtag approved the financing plan for the new building at its meeting on Wednesday. Around 73 million euros are available for the new building. 🤝 "The battery is the heart of every electric car. Its design has a decisive influence on the overall sustainability of electric mobility. The CPC will develop sustainably designed and produced batteries and use innovative processes to give old batteries a new lease of life," said Lower Saxony's Science Minister Falko Mohrs. "The ultra-modern new building at #TUBraunschweig will create ideal conditions for this research, which is also forward-looking for the region." Every year, Castros | Lighting Designers and MATGLOW celebrate the Day of Photonics. 2024 marks the approval of the ambitious project UVineSafe, focused on the use of ultraviolet (UV) light to induce resistance in grape vine against pests and diseases, funded by the Banco BPI Fundação “La Caixa” in partnership with the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). Aligned with their high-impact sustainable innovation objectives of using UV technology in agrifood applications, the companies Castros S.A. and Matglow led the initiative by inviting their close partner Centro de Investigação e de Tecnologias Agroambientais e Biológicas (CITAB) of Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD, Project Coordinator), who joined forces with Universidade do Porto (FCUP) and Fundação Casa de Mateus, a potential end user, to pursue the project. In today’s visit in RISE Research Institutes of Sweden new pilot hall we can finally show you a finished installation. As a natural step in expanding RISE’s offer on biobased and sustainable materials development, we are thrilled to mark the introduction of a new research infrastructure for fibre-based foam materials. For many years, we at RISE have been working on the development of fibre-based foam materials to broaden and enhance applications. As the field matures, there is increasing interest in these materials due to their recyclability, biodegradability, and resource efficiency. While continuing to work in lab scale on formulation, process development, and performance characterisation of these materials, we recognise the need to produce larger volumes for demonstrative and application-relevant evaluation. “It was an exciting day when the pilot was ready to be used. After all the planning and installing I was very eager to test it for the first time, and the same goes for the people who have worked together with me on this. So we did a first shot, and everything worked smoothly! Hence, we can safely conclude that we are up and running. Now we can focus on the purpose of the investment, delivering valuable results that will help clients and partners find new ways to produce sustainable foam materials,” says Sara Wallstén, researcher at RISE.
