Breaking the Plastic Habit: A Guidance Note and Practical Toolkit Behavioural insight interventions were implemented in four countries in the Asia-Pacific to reduce plastic consumption. Case studies provide detailed accounts of designing and evaluating interventions, with lessons learned that can inform scaling interventions in various settings. Plastic pollution is a significant issue in the region, and understanding what drives individual and collective decision-making mechanisms can help identify root causes of plastic usage. A behavioural insight approach using social influences, emotional appeals, and choice architecture can complement traditional policy instruments to curb single-use plastics consumption. https://ift.tt/8vRCp1y #news #cto #tech

The Big Vape: A Cautionary Tale for Tech 🚬💨🎧 I had the pleasure of sitting down with Fareed Mosavat as a guest on the podcast, Unsolicited Feedback, to break down the rise and fall of Juul, the e-cigarette company. Admittedly, it was a story I wasn't fully familiar with until recently and realized that while it's a story that's as addictive as nicotine itself, it's also one with some sobering lessons for the tech industry. Here are some of the main takeaways: 🚀 Move Fast, Break Things... But Be Prepared for the Fallout Juul's rapid growth was fueled by a "move fast and break things" ethos, most commonly associated to the tech world. But when things broke, they shattered and criticism focused on this approach. The company was also unprepared for the backlash against its marketing tactics and the unintended consequences of its product. The lesson? Anticipate potential problems, have a plan, and be ready to react swiftly and decisively. 🎯 Mission-Driven Doesn't Mean Immune to Criticism Juul started with a noble mission: to eradicate smoking and its negative consequences. But good intentions got lost in the smoke of controversy. The company failed to communicate its vision effectively to the public, leading to a loss of trust and misunderstanding. The takeaway? Keep your mission front and center in all your communications, and make sure your actions align with your words. 💰 Choose Your Investors Wisely Juul's downfall was hastened by its choice of investors. When the going got tough, they didn't have the company's back. The moral of the story? Pick investors who believe in your mission and will stick with you through thick and thin. 🧒 Protect the Kids Juul's biggest misstep was failing to anticipate how its product could be misused by underage users. The result was a PR nightmare and regulatory crackdown. The lesson? Consider all potential users of your product, not just your target audience, and put safeguards in place to prevent misuse. And, while we all wish for a virality and organic growth with our marketing efforts, once a campaign goes viral, the company has lost control. Their initial ad wasn’t well thought out, went viral, and then was too late to stop. In the end, Juul's story is a cautionary tale for other tech markets. [bonus] before we got into the main topic, we spoke about some trends in today's tech environment, specifically around recruiting, the impact the large-scale layoffs are having and how we might be around the corner of a 'next-level' burn-out. I had a lot of fun on this one. Listen here>> https://rb.gy/0qqbor

In the first part of today's show, we delved into how scientists have supercharged photosynthesis to create "Carbon Gobbling" super plants. Then we explored a major new study that reveals how ultra-processed foods can affect your lifespan. Finally, we discussed a breakthrough where EV batteries could see extended life spans due to a new capacitor with 19-times the energy density, created by scientists by accident. Today's unpopular opinion was that participation trophies in kids' sports are a good thing. In the second half of the show, we asked 100 humans to name an excuse kids give to skip gym class. We also looked at a Chinese zoo that's under fire for dyeing dogs to resemble pandas. The ProBoh Show is a variety show in English, hosted by Rob Grams. Thursday Food for Thought: 🌟 Embracing Innovation in the Bunker Industry 🌟 As we navigate through the dynamic landscape of the bunker business, it's evident that embracing technology is not just an option but a necessity for sustainable growth. I strongly believe that AI, e-bunker delivery notes, and cutting-edge technology are the future of our industry. However, in our pursuit of progress, we must tread carefully. While bunker apps and purchasing platforms have streamlined processes, solely driven by profit motives, they may not always align with our long-term objectives. As stakeholders, we need to prioritize sustainable practices and ethical considerations over short-term gains. One critical aspect is our transition towards future fuels. It's undeniable that these fuels come with their challenges – they're more expensive, less energy-efficient, and pose higher risks of off-specifications, leading to potentially costly claims. Yet, it's precisely in these challenges that opportunities lie. By actively engaging with future fuels, we can innovate, mitigate risks, and drive meaningful change in our industry. Let's shift our focus from mere profit maximization to holistic sustainability. By leveraging technology responsibly and embracing innovation with a purpose, we can shape a brighter future for the bunker industry—one that's not only profitable but also environmentally conscious and socially responsible. #BunkerIndustry #Technology #Innovation #Sustainability #FutureFuels #EthicalBusiness
