We’ve been through a week and a half of opening College Hunks of Louisville and it has been going well! I wanted to share some pre-opening and first week pains. 🥶 Why? I am here to share the realities of small business operations - the roses and the thorns! So future operators and owners can make the best choice for themselves. Some of the pains: 1. Received over 200 applications for our crew positions, were only able to hire 12, and train 6 (I thought the restaurant industry had labor challenges - this industry is on another level) 👀 2. Received our movers license a day before calendar launch - had to go back and forth with the gov due to confusing requirements 🏫 3. Realized that we are opening at a time when the moving industry has had a historically low amount of leads but high competition 📉 4. Became immobile during the first week of opening due to a disc bulge (not from moving a client haha) 🩻 5. Realized that we have a few loose screws in the crew training process and the client sales process ⚙️ And so much more… But we are overcoming them all with a pinch of stress, a solution-oriented mindset, and a ton of fun. A majority of the credit goes to Derrick Wiest. The next post will be all about the lessons learned while overcoming failure points. Just getting started 😤

Employee Spotlight: Get to know Jake Bosley, a Corporate Recruiter at Binkley & Barfield | DCCM! 🎧 What do you like to do in your free time? Although you can never go wrong with lounging on the couch, I get out of the house as much as possible. On a typical day I like to walk my dog while listening to podcasts, work out, try new recipes, and hang out with friends. 👋 What is your favorite thing about your job? My favorite thing about my job is interacting with new people daily. This has allowed me to grow an amazing network over the last few years. ⛳Do you have any unique hobbies? I’d have to replace “unique” with “frustrating” in this question, but I love playing golf. 🏈Where is your favorite place to be? AT&T Stadium here in Dallas. Go Cowboys! 👀What would most people be most surprised to learn about you? I’m red-green color blind. My parents found out in elementary school when I colored red grass on my drawings. 🤝What is the most rewarding part of your job? I find a lot of fulfillment in uncovering a candidate’s professional issues and solving those issues with the right opportunity at Binkley & Barfield | DCCM. There’s so much reward in knowing that you helped somebody open a new door to a better situation. #BinkleyBarfield #HumanResources #Infrastructure #BBIFOC #DCCM #LandDevelopment #Designer #EmployeeSpotlight #PowerOfOurPeople #NewBraunfels #Engineering #Surveying #Surveyors #CivilEngineering #DesignDevelopGrow

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY. I have always been the kind of person who believes, no matter what role you play, you have value and you deserve respect. From the janitor to the CEO, we all Play a role in the overall #success of the organization. I recall, many many years ago, I worked in the stock room at Zellers and part of my job was to make sure there were always carts available for the customers. One day, someone was speaking down to me because I was only a stock boy and that I wasn’t important. I ask if they had a cart for thier items, the replied yes. I asked if the products they were looking for were on the shelf, they replied yes. I told them, if it wasn’t for my team mates and I in the stock room, that wouldn’t happen. Honestly, if someone is working hard, takes pride in thier work and provide for those whom depend on them, that is what makes our communities great places to live. Also, by starting from the ground floor and working my way up, I have gained a certain respect for what I have received and take pride in the success I have had through my career. It also gives you a better prospective of those who are earlier on in their career and the path they have ahead of them. The moral of my post is, don’t deminish the efforts of others if you don’t see thier worth. Acknowledge that they contribute to the success of the organization and they too deserve to be recognized for that. What are your thought or experiences on this topic? Do you feel your status in life should dictate the level of respect your receive or do you feel we all deserve to be treated equally? #thanksfortheread.

What many of you may not know is that I left the corporate world to pursue a career in barbering. Last week, I had the privilege of speaking to the Future Professionals at Paul Mitchell The School - Orlando. During my talk, I was asked, "What was the toughest part about switching careers?" As I replay my answer, I'm reminded of the lengths I went to in order to stand out in the competitive field of barbering, and the tremendous support my wife provided (and still does) along the way. Take a listen. If my answer inspires you, reminds you of your journey, or if you just want to leave a comment, please share in the comments below! #publicspeaking #lifelessons #barbering #journey

Last week, as a #CommsTeamIntern at #SpartanNash, I had the exciting opportunity to participate in a Day in the Field with Josh Libkie, Grocery Operations Manager at SpartanNash's Grand Rapids Distribution Center. Josh had so much awesome insight to share in the few hours I spent with him. Here are just a few takeaways from our time together: 1. Training strategies and techniques for new employees is a lot more complicated than I would've thought. 2. It is crucial as a leader to not only reward workers but also remind them that their jobs matter and make a huge impact on SpartanNash's success. 3. Change for the sake of change usually fails. It needs to be intentional and have a clear purpose and objective. 4. It's important to solve the little things to solve a big thing. 5. "One of the greatest problem-solving tools is perspective." 🤯 It was also a pleasure to meet and meet Jacob Fuller, aPHR, and learn from Lake Zackrison as well. Thank you all for having me! #SpartanNashIntern #GladToBeHere

Account Manager @ Bunzl Greenham | Dedicated to helping new & existing clients navigate their procurement needs.
It’s been an incredible month at Bunzl Greenham so far. Meet a lot of people and have learnt so much. So here are my 5 key takeaways: 1. The Importance of Relationships: Building strong connections with clients is crucial. Taking the time to understanding their needs and concerns lays the foundation for successful partnerships. 2. Attention to Detail: Paying attention to even the smallest details can make such a big difference. From order accuracy to timely communication, every interaction shapes the client's experience. 3. The Power of Adaptability: Change is inevitable but it’s how we adapt and grow that defines our success. Learning to pivot quickly and efficiently respond to change to ensure a smooth operation. 4. Continuous Learning: I don’t believe I know it all. Every day brings new opportunities to learn and grow. Whether it's expanding product knowledge or honing negotiation skills, embracing a mindset of continuous learning has been essential for both my personal and professional development. 5. Team Collaboration: Collaborating effectively with colleagues across departments has helped to strengthens my ability to deliver exceptional service and results. I help I.T. MSPs increase profits by improving systems to hire, manage, develop, and retain top performers in a championship culture.
How can you confirm a superstar who you want to hire has good character? Two tips: First, observe carefully how they behave throughout your hiring tryouts. Do they interrupt, seek to go first, humbly own past mistakes, give credit to others, etc.? Second, watch when you’re not involved in hiring drills, workouts, and scrimmages. For instance, take them out to a coffee shop or for a meal. How well do they treat others. In particular, watch for manners they should have learned. In the old days, when you were crossing the crosswalk as a student, and you noticed the car was waiting for you to get past so they could make a turn, you walked faster or ran to not hold them up. You put others ahead of yourself. Do they open the door for someone else? Are they nice to the restaurant staff? Maybe you have a company basketball team, and they play. Invite them to play and see how they compete. Put players in positions where they let their guard down and you experience who they really are. #mentoringminute #character #hirethebest #hiring #scenarios #zigzigglar #business #teambuilding #development

SVP - Talent Acquisition at Oliver James - Hiring Experienced Recruiters across the USA, UK & Ireland for our NYC office!
Another short clip in the training series 'The Journey', follow Oliver James to keep a look out for what's to come next! Just one of the many reasons I joined Oliver James (almost 8 years ago now!), was the aspirational leadership. During my first conversation with the recruitment team I couldn't quite believe what these Managers/Regional Directors had achieved in terms of career trajectory, network and of course, performance (revenue generated). Those case studies given to me as examples of fast-track progression and billing figures were not something I had thought was honestly possible, during my first 12 months in the industry. I went with my gut and interviewed, something I was almost skeptical about became a reality when I saw it all for myself, and I'll never forget those first interviews Rick Davis, Charlotte Rigby Alyson Andrews. Instead of being intimidated I relished that I would be surrounded by the top percentile of performers, not just within Oliver James, but the industry as a whole. Who better to learn from? If you want to enhance your career prospects or earnings in recruitment, or even if you're just starting out in the industry, I'd love to chat with you about how Oliver James will set you up for success. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me. #AspirationalLeadership #Recruitment #CareerProspects #OliverJames #TheJourney
In your current role, are you surrounded by successful people that inspire you? Executive Director Gary Rushton discusses the high performing environment he stepped into at Oliver James: “If they can do it and it’s happened for them, then it can happen for me!” This is a short clip from one of our training series, ‘The Journey’.
