Electric Vehicle and EV Charging Data Services - Market Analysis | NEVI Tracking | Forecasts | Keynote Speaker | Paren.app | EVAdoption.com | EVStatistics.com | EVStation.com
During the last 18 months or so, I believe the DC fast charging industry has begun a significant transition toward a more grown up, viable industry. I'm working on what will probably end up being a very long article, but thought I would float a trial ballon with the graphic below. The past has largely been companies founded on venture capital, and built around getting grants and incentives and aggressive sales teams chasing the EV charging land grab with site hosts. But new players tend to be mature and are often huge companies with deep corporate pockets and who are focused on business goals, customer experience, and incremental revenue (or selling more EVs). Three of the key pillars of the new and recent entrants into the market are: Reliability and availability; A stellar customer experience; and optimization of revenue and profitability. That's the short version until I finish the article ... but do you agree, or see the changes and future (or even my depiction of the past) of the public DC fast charging industry differently?

Here is a diagram with my thoughts on EV station structure, all green boxes are revenue opportunities. In the past, charge stations were non-core business centric add ons. The serious players will have charge stations with a customer centric focus. My diagram is from an EV OEM perspective, but it can be segmented out depending on developer. If you can use it, please do. You will most likely have to open it up on it's own to be able to zoom in, I have a pdf if you need it.

Agree, China's charging market has also experienced such a process. In 2015, China began to attach importance to the construction of charging piles and provide subsidy policies. Starting in 2017, the policy direction gradually shifted from construction subsidies to operating subsidies. Subsidies will be reduced starting in 2019 Electric vehicle sales have grown rapidly since 2020, and charging stations have gradually made profits without relying on subsidies. The market will shift to high-quality development starting in 2023

The current situation with EV’s is similar to Cable & Wireless ditching POTS and migrating to IP. They moved too early, which reduced their revenues and left them in a financial mess, but it was in the end the right decision. For me migrations need to move at a measured pace, too much too soon will cause a dip and companies to fail, but in the end we will all be driving an EV of some sort. I will miss dial tone though #electric #telecoms

It reminds me of years 2005 which cell-phones and mobile services were just starting to grow in Iran. Remember how the EDGE and 3G networks were? And now look where they have got. Along side with the expanding infrastructure, the protocols have matured significantly. EV-Charging is in its infant ages, with its associated ever-evolving protocols and standards. But no one can predict how it would become in 20 years.

Why do companies and investors continue to focus on public charging networks? For the past four years, we've been predicting that public slow charging will become obsolete once home and work charging are widely available - much like phone booths disappeared with the rise of personal and mobile phones. It seems we were right! The shares of two major US public charging networks, EVgo and ChargePoint, which went public in early 2021, have plummeted by over 90%. #EVcharging #chargingnetwork #EV #VE #rechargeVE https://lnkd.in/evnKVyDn
