When it comes to Mycotoxins, Prof. Angel Medina, Director of Environment & AgriFood from Cranfield University, has the following to say: “If we look at the potential effect of climate change on the number of mycotoxins, the data is showing that the problem will increase. Mycotoxins are difficult to visualize, we cannot smell them, taste them or see them. They're also difficult to destroy as they are highly resistant to heat. I think the best option to reduce the levels is to remove the kernels that are contaminated, with an optical sorter. 🔗Do you have questions around Food Safety? Food systems encompass numerous processes involved in food production and consumption in our communities, with a general goal of ensuring food security and nutrition for everyone. However, current food systems around the world may be considered as inefficient and not sustainable, as evidenced by the large portion of the world population experiencing chronic hunger. Other key indicators also provide further evidence of the lack of sustainability of our current food systems, ranging from the socioeconomic and environmental indicators, the latter of which includes the climate crisis. Thus, raising awareness and encouraging mobilizations all around the world becomes imperative. This year, CSM, along with the International Association of Students in Agricultural and related Sciences (IAAS), will be facilitating an online panel discussion with a diverse set of advocates in order to shed more light on sustainability in food systems, its intersectionality with climate and health, and current developments in realizing more sustainable food systems. Date: June 15, 2024 Time: 1:30 - 3:00 PM UTC+0 Modality: Online, through Zoom Interested in our event? The application of indoor air quality systems holds paramount importance in settings where the stakes are exceptionally high, such as food processing facilities and healthcare environments. In food safety, preventing contamination and extending product shelf life are critical for public health and economic viability. Similarly, in healthcare settings, protecting vulnerable patients from airborne infections is a matter of life and death. The deployment of advanced air quality systems in these areas is not just an operational decision but a moral imperative, underscoring the essential role of technology in safeguarding health and safety.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the #VoluntaryGuidelines on the #RighttoFood. While many believe that access is the sole pillar of the right to food, we at Food Security Standard believe that the right to food extends much further, making it a crosscutting right. Are you wondering what the other pillars of Food Security are? ⚖️ Stability: Ensuring consistent access to quality food without disruptions requires sound governance and economic growth strategies. 🔑 Access: The ability to obtain nutritious food is determined by factors like income, infrastructure, and market access. 🛒 Availability: Having enough quality food to meet dietary needs, respecting land rights, and ensuring sustainable resource management. 🏥 Utilization: Conditions that must be met for adequate food consumption, including safety, water access, sanitation, and healthcare. 🔄 Cross-cutting elements: Important aspects like education, participation, and non-discrimination that support food security. Photos of the Food Security intra-governmental conference this week. This was a launch of the.program and we will be participating in several workshops in order to ensure plant based messages are taken into account. Food security is only possible with a plant-based, sustainable, transformation of our food systems. #Vegan4FoodSecurity

CEO & Founder @ TTC I Executive Coach & Advisor I Facilitator I Generative Leadership Development I Artist I Scriber | Award-Winning Coach & Athlete
I would love to join BeBiodiversity to thank all the below-mentioned speakers, the whole BeBiodiversity team, and the dedicated individuals who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, such as the event organizers, technical support, and volunteers. Your collective efforts made this first high-level event a great success. As Sandrine Dixson-Declève and Earth4All mentioned: the dominant economic model destabilises societies and the planet. It is time for change, and it is now. Yes, let's face reality we do not have what it takes to get to the objectives of 2025, 2030, 2040 and the big goal of achieving a carbon-neutral state, or '0 neutral ', in 2050. It is time for change, and it is now. Three keywords came to my mind during the day: supremacy, reciprocity, and gender inequalities. During the panel, I created public awareness of bridging natural intelligence, which refers to the innate wisdom and intelligence found in nature, with other same-minded participants through human supremacy, reciprocity, and gender inequalities. In the School of KI/気 or Inner Energy Leadership School, we teach the participants that plants and trees have agency. We nudge behaviour to create a new ecosystem for the leaders of today and tomorrow in service of Mother Earth. Our pyramid has to move upside down if we seek to be adaptable and not practice hot yoga in the streets soon. Above all my heart witnessed we harvest a lot of wisdom yesterday, such as the importance of biodiversity in maintaining ecological balance, the need for sustainable economic models, and the role of gender equality in achieving a sustainable future. I'm filled with gratitude for the invitation and share the experiences, wisdom, and best practices we all exchanged during the day. I feel energised by the container created to hold this space. Synergies that have been connected through different human beings during the day. I sense hope and am more determined that participants will connect the dots and not reinvent the wheel. I observe hope in pursuing the work and hold the containers I create with more fierce courage. I identify a deep curiosity to dive deeper into all that was exchanged Yesterday and reach out to connect with the group of minded people. I feel complete. #EU2024BE #RegenerativeDevelopment

#FoodSecurity 🌍🍽️ | A recent publication in Nature magazine's Communications Earth & Environment highlights the critical challenges and opportunities in transforming our food systems. Our colleague Bart De Steenhuijsen Piters, together with Jessica Fanzo, Ariel Soto-Caro, Arlette Saint Ville, Mohammed Mainuddin, and Jane Battersby, share in the article the need for equitable access to nutritious diets, resilience in food systems, and balanced power in food policy. Resilience as a concept has been known for more than a hundred years in many scientific fields, but its application to food systems is relatively recent. This is hardly surprising, as resilience is difficult to define in food systems. This, in turn, is due to the complexity of these systems. Bart de Steenhuijsen Piters has designed a framework to make it easier to define and, more importantly, support such resilience. In doing so, the framework focuses on four elements: ⚡ Ensuring the agency and the means and capacities of populations to mitigate risks and respond to shocks 🌀 Creating buffers and resources that can be relied on in the event of shocks and stressors 🔗 Boosting connectivity between market actors and segments 💹 Increasing diversity from production to consumption and across spatial scales. The Food system’s resilience can increase if the people, communities and institutions master these four capacities.
