Preventing the Surprise: Examining Awareness of Menses Before Menarche At NSFI, we believe that comprehensive knowledge about menstruation is essential for every individual, particularly before their first menstruation cycle. We conducted a research study to explore the level of awareness among girls and young women regarding menses before their menarche involving 100 women from Himachal Pradesh and Telangana. The findings provide valuable insights into the existing awareness gaps and underscore the need for targeted educational interventions: 40% of respondents indicated that they had little or no prior knowledge about menses before experiencing their first period. They also expressed that they had minimal understanding of the physical, emotional, and practical aspects associated with menstruation. The Implications of the research findings highlight the critical need for proactive menstrual health education, particularly targeting girls and young women before their menarche. By providing accurate and age-appropriate information about menstruation, we can empower them to embrace this natural process with confidence and make informed decisions regarding their menstrual hygiene. The lack of pre-menarche awareness often resulted in confusion, anxiety, and feelings of unpreparedness among girls and young women. Let's break the silence, spread awareness, and ensure that no one feels alone or uninformed during this crucial phase of life.
