This is shocking news. For the many people in Sydney who live in apartments, parkland serves as their backyard, their space to exercise, play, walk the dog or unwind. Wentworth Park sits in the middle of one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in Australia and is dominated by a greyhound racing track. This parkland should be for the benefit of the community, not an industry that has admitted to killing up to 17,000 healthy dogs each year, has been shown to live-bait, and causes problem gamblers real suffering. We welcomed the former Government's commitment to return Wentworth Park to the public. The City of Sydney has already conducted early consultation and we have begun a new masterplan for community use of this prime inner city land. It would be bitterly disappointing if the Government backed down, indicating the greyhound industry is more important to them than the community of Pyrmont/Ultimo. We are not going to solve the housing crisis without more housing and we can’t expect people to live well in higher density without improved public amenity – including access to parkland and recreational space. The NSW Government is intent on delivering extra housing density, but it must recognise this additional housing requires infrastructure and open space to ensure growing suburbs are liveable. Here's one we made earlier... It's been a busy few months (about 19 on the bounce to be fair!), but as things finally start to slow down ahead of a much needed holiday, I came across this video in my phone and it made me smile. This was a knackered three bed house in Wigan, that we have turned into a high quality four bed HMO for supported housing in just over twelve weeks. It's definitely not the biggest or sexiest property development project I've completed over the last ten years whilst I've been active in property, and it didn't come without a few of the usual challenges, but I'm really pleased with the outcome. BREAKING NEWS: City of St. Petersburg, Florida ranks No. 1 in Florida and No. 11 in the nation for park systems by the Trust for Public Land (TPL) in this year’s ParkScore® index, which analyzed 100 of the largest U.S. cities to determine how well each city is meeting the needs for parks. According to TPL, 78% of St. Pete residents are within a 10-minute walk of a park. St. Pete is no stranger to being in the top 15; however, the City continues to climb in the ranking as it aims to create an inclusive and equitably accessible parks and recreation system. https://lnkd.in/eTYiTVma

This has been an amazing year so far for me. Having suppressed long ago the ambition to be a magazine editor, that's what I am now. I absolutely love it! I have thought through every aspect of how to make this new publication happen - the publisher, visuals, feel, size, content, sponsorship, images, contributors, editorial board, distribution method, advertising, timing, you name it - but more importantly, the why. Why? It's pretty much always the most important question. In this case, it's to give local people the evidence that High Wycombe is an amazing place, where Creativity meets Opportunity. Not just tell them, but show them. Repeatedly. And that way, we hope to improve to build confidence and interest in the town centre. Fear of anti social behaviour has kept people away, but that's everywhere these days. It's actually much safer here than people think. It can sometimes be a bit edgy and corners of it are a bit scruffy? That's what they used to say about Shoreditch, Clerkenwell and Notting Hill. That's a sign of a good investment opportunity, if you ask me. Meanwhile Wycombe has the most extraordinary heritage of arts, crafts, live music, film making, theatre and drama, education, entrepreneurs, charitable generosity, sport, and wonderful neighbourliness. By focusing on the town's cool collaborative creativity, and its wonderful diverse blend of people, we believe we can bring visitors, investment and economic regeneration to our historic market town. That's why.

It’s great to see the positivity from the Government on the new generation of New Towns. As detailed in previous posts the key to delivering the needed housing, including affordable tenures, will depend on four main factors for me (there are others). 1. Labour/Central Govt being strong enough to impose the housing where it is really needed geographically possibly against local opposition. 2. Clear and precise funding options to get the new generation of New Towns off the ground in terms of up front strategic infrastructure funding linked to real world viability and project specific cash flow. 3. Improved Local Authority and PINs resourcing and capacity. This is critical to actually processing the Development Plan promotions, staffing EiPs, pre-apps, EIA Scoping submissions, Design Code negotiation, planning applications both outline and RM, S106 and discharge of conditions and of course appeals and Judicial Review. 4. Improving the capacity and skills of the construction industry so there are enough workers with appropriate skill sets to build the developments. Failure to resolve and clarify these issues quickly will simply result in lots of expenditure across all sectors of the development industry. Summix

The redevelopment of the Parramatta CBD has balanced a tension between transforming parts of the city without losing its spirit and Parramatta-ness. I welcome the billions of investment into Blacktown with some caution, but the Parramatta example gives me confidence that it can be done well. The proposed development aligns to what is already a city on the move. Cutting edge sporting facilities, the finest healthcare facility in the Southern Hemisphere, and the already complete upgrades to the CBD streetscape promise to bookend this work. When viewed through the lens of a TV camera, I can understand the streets of Blacktown appear tired. The reality is very different. 15 000 new residents arrive every year and bring with them the patterns, flavour, language, and daily rituals from a rich mix of cultures. Being on the northern edge of the Red Rooster Line, Blacktown is a street-foodie's paradise yet maintains a sprinkling of coffee shops that hold their own against all but the coolest burrows of the inner west. The commitment of billions of investment dollars will bring some fresh lines of concrete and glass, but the life is already here, and it is anything but tired. https://lnkd.in/gy6P6zRs
