National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) was first observed on June 27, 1995. This is a day to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment. CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care, and more often if you do things that might increase your risk for getting HIV. An estimated 1 in 8, or 13% of people living with HIV don't know they are infected and account for nearly 40% of new transmissions. As of 2017, half of all people living with HIV worldwide are receiving antiretroviral treatment, also known as ART (here).
