National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) was first observed on June 27, 1995. This is a day to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment. CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care, and more often if you do things that might increase your risk for getting HIV. Knowing your HIV status helps you choose options to stay healthy. No matter how you test, no matter your test results, you can take the next step for your health. An estimated 1 in 8, or 13% of people living with HIV don't know they are infected and account for nearly 40% of new transmissions. Getting tested is the only way for a person to know their status for sure and get connected to the care they need. Studies show that when people learn they are HIV positive they take the necessary steps to protect their own health and prevent HIV transmission to others. Using some of the industry’s smallest sample sizes, Chembio rapid HIV tests are easy to use and offer results within 15 minutes. https://hubs.ly/Q02D13FC0 #NHTD #NHTD2024 #StopHIVTogether #RapidTesting

As of 2017, half of all people living with HIV worldwide are receiving antiretroviral treatment, also known as ART (here). HIV.gov explains that when “people living with HIV achieve and maintain viral suppression by taking HIV medication daily as prescribed, they can stay healthy and have effectively no risk of sexually transmitting HIV to their partners.” #africa #health #healthcare #medicines #vaccines #publichealth https://lnkd.in/esa5agTT
