Kenya has been hailed for having one of the most developed energy sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa more so in green energy. In 2022, 81% of Kenya’s electricity generation came from the low-carbon sources of geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar power, half of which came from geothermal energy which Kenya has in abundance. The country is well-positioned to generate cleaner, cost-effective energy in the country. Today, local content is a key strategy for African governments with oil and gas reserves to improve the wellbeing of their people. Similarly, diversification efforts aim to avoid the well-known "𝗗𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲." For these strategies to succeed, we need local companies that strive for excellence. In Angola, we have several such companies, including TECSEP - A Task Synergy Group Company, OCTOMAR - SERVIÇOS MARÍTIMOS, PETROANGOLA, CABSHIP and 𝗧𝘂𝗯𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀. In Namibia, similar companies will emerge much faster than anticipated. Moreover, a favorable business environment is essential for their growth, encompassing a stable macroeconomic landscape, clear laws, and favorable fiscal terms for local companies. By uniting business and government leaders in Cape Town under one roof, AEC African Energy Week is shedding a brighter light on these subjects by making them part of the agenda.
