Breaking Down Barriers is incredibly excited to announce our partnership with Symbiotics! Pilot aptitude assessments have always been a key topic of discussion at BDB, and we were delighted when Symbiotics approached us to showcase their product. They are a global company and tapping into their expertise has been truly enlightening. Personally, undergoing their tests and engaging with their team has been a highlight of my time at BDB. Pilot aptitude assessments play a crucial role in the BDB process. As we interact with communities in Dallas, our objective is to identify high-achieving minorities who lack aviation awareness and the financial resources to pursue pilot training. Let me be clear - this does not mean lowering standards. Rather, it involves discovering untapped talent, engaging with individuals who have not had the same opportunities as others, and assessing their aptitude, recognizing that their gender and ethnicity do not dictate their ability to operate an aircraft safely. As Doug Parker has rightly pointed out, how can we recruit the best pilots when there is a segment of the population that has never had the chance to apply? For BDB, our collaboration with Symbiotics marks a significant milestone, and we firmly believe that we could not achieve our mission without their support. https://lnkd.in/g9R-Jkbf breakingdownbarriers.org symbioticsltd.com
We’re delighted to announce that Symbiotics have partnered with Breaking Down Barriers, a recently established aviation non-profit founded by Doug and Gwen Parker. Breaking Down Barriers aims to offer flight training scholarships to promising minorities in the Dallas area who face barriers in aviation awareness and financial support to pursue a career as a Pilot. Pilot aptitude assessments play a crucial role in identifying individuals with high potential, and Symbiotics looks forward to supporting Breaking Down Barriers in evaluating their applicants. CEO of Breaking Down Barriers, Dana Donati remarks: “The Symbiotics team is using their aviation specific benchmark data with BDB and has created a solution that will help us identify candidates who will excel at becoming a pilot but lack the career awareness and financial resources to begin aviation training. The assessment performance aids us in ensuring that we are recruiting the right candidates to alleviate the obstacles encountered by many pilots during training. Symbiotics stands as a trusted leader in aviation assessments, and we are grateful for the opportunity to partner with them.” Welcome to Dana and the team – we look forward to working with you. Read, share and donate! 1 year ago i finished a help project to the Ukraine by delivering the last 66 furnaces, out of 200, to people in need. This project was massive and for almost 3 months i in reality had a second job but one that i had to to in my spare time. This project created ripples and I estimate that in the end it ment that almost 500 furnaces were delivered in total, warming approx. 10000 ukrainians. https://lnkd.in/da--Jy6m https://lnkd.in/ddnmUvVH My goal was to start a similar project this autumn but unfortunately i got a massive heart attack on the 29th of july and the energy and mental ability has not been on par. Instead i chose to do something else that will help them out and that wont create high stress levels and that is to build and deliver drones to the Ukraine. Building drones is a hobby of mine, welding furnaces not so much :-) I have gathered a bunch of people that will help me with this and we aim to have finished building 3 large heavy lift drones (all up weight 25 kg) and deliver them in the end of march. I will also go down to Poland and train the soldiers that will use these on the battlefield. By the way, i will deliver 3 more furnaces as well. When i started this i realised that this would cost approx 10000 euros to complete and i could start the project with a fund raiser or just fxxking do it. I chose the latter and have taken the money from my own savings account and so far spent about 8000 euros on hardware, software and sensors/payload equipment. Attached you can see the drones we are building at the moment and also the feet of the crew that are helping out. I will not answer any questions regarding the purpose of these drones or what type of electronics or sensors they carry. I can answer any questions you have regarding the design of them since that is pretty much standard stuff. I believe that with the right support i could deliver large heavy lifting drones on a regular basis to the Ukraine but in order to do so i need financial support. So if you are interested in donating money you can do that to my paypal account, hakan.pettersson@yahoo.se or if in Sweden you can contribute via Swish, 0703632870. If you do not have Paypal or Swish please send me a PM and we will figure it out. Mark your donation with "Ukraine". All money will be used to either build and deliver drones to the Ukraine or buy ready to fly drones based on requests from my contacts in the Ukraine. I will update this post and also the post i made on FB with how the fundraiser goes and of course how the project moves forward. https://lnkd.in/dPHmtRrB All donations are welcome! It is time for us to put the money were our mouth is. :-)

So many people in aviation have remarkable gifts and they join together to make the best system in the world. There are groups like advocacy associations that lobby and fight for policy that supports their members. There groups that organically join and groups that are pooled together to give a strong voice for vital issues. There are also topic specific groups built of thought leaders who dream of how to make the system better. Then, there are the non-profits. They are the glue that holds the aviation system together. These are aviation’s “good news” stories. While it is essential that the for-profit groups do what they do, it is also critical that organizations that bring the heritage, life services, unique accessibility, and future of aviation to the hearts of the public always has the means to do so. Imagine a world without the National Aeronautic Association to help us remember where we have been and drive where we are going. Imagine a world without Corporate Angel Network and LightHawk to support vital services today. Imagine a world without museums like the Cosmosphere to spark the next generation of aviations workforce. We need our local #AeroClubs to bring aviation opportunities to communities across the world. Schools, scholarships and more all depend on the generosity of people who belive in what we all do. There are so many non-profits in aviation (too many to list!) that are fulfilling a mission that enhances the world for everyone. These groups are staffed by hard working professionals and selfless volunteers who count on you to ensure their mission. Don’t take their relevancy and existence for granted. Choose your favorites and support them so they can continue to give their gifts away.

Flying Club or Partnership? Flying clubs and aviation partnerships (co-ownerships) are great ways to reduce the cost of operating an aircraft while fostering camaraderie, mentoring and friendships. However, since flying clubs can offer some tax advantages, it is important to understand what constitutes a flying club. While there are many recommended best-practices, here are some of the key elements of a flying club. A flying club should: · Be a non-profit organization, preferably legally registered as a non-profit corporation · Have all club members share equally in the ownership of aircraft or the lease obligations of the club · Hold regular meetings · Establish operating rules and maintain bylaws · Not advertise services, such as flight training, to the public Airports and FBOs may have additional rules, regulations or permits for flying clubs so be sure to communicate with your local administration. For more information on flying clubs, check out FAA order 5190.6 Chapter 10.6 or AOPA's Guide to Starting a Flying Club. Photo credit: Dumbledore@pexels.com
