Decommissioning a nuclear facility after the end of its operating life is a core element of responsible life cycle planning. Decommissioning activities, set to increase in the coming years as ageing nuclear power plants are retired, include decontamination and dismantling of structures, leading to the removal of regulatory controls so that a facility and site may be reused.
You lump all you talk about as Nuclear and do not talk about Fusion you are as the fission industry is ignorant of what's happening around it and has buried its head in the sand.
Pull your heads out and start backing, investing, and adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercial growing fusion energy industry.

Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally.
Commercial fusion electrical energy generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy.
By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period.

Big Milestone at Hinkley Point B 🚀
Today marks a significant achievement as ONR oversees the defuelling of Reactor 4 at Hinkley Point B in Somerset. This milestone, completed under the diligent operation of EDF, paves the way for the beginning of defuelling work on Reactor 3. The removed nuclear fuel from Reactor 4 will be safely transported to Sellafield in Cumbria, ensuring secure storage. 🎥
Defuelling at Hinkley Point B began in August 2022 after an impressive 46 years of electricity generation. It's inspiring to see such a seamless transition into the defuelling phase. The end goal is to have the site fully fuel-free, transferring the nuclear site licence to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority for subsequent decommissioning work. This seamless progression underscores the robust safety protocols in place.
Mike Webb, ONR's Head of Operating Reactors Sub-Division, highlighted the importance of this phase: "Defuelling removes the vast majority of the radioactive hazard. We will continue to regulate the site effectively to ensure compliance with all regulations to safeguard workers and the public." As ONR continues to invite feedback from stakeholders, your voices are crucial in shaping the decommissioning process. 💬
