Feeling stressed? Here’s a useful tip. Whenever you feel yourself getting stressed, you can help yourself by moving out of the space that you are in. Go into another room in the home, or the garden, grab a coffee outside or even take a quick stroll around a nearby park. Moving takes you away from the environment where the stress arose and therefore makes it easier for the stress to subside. You can add to this by taking some deep and slow breaths- try the Square Breathing technique. Breathe in for a count of four, hold for a count of four, exhale for a count of four, hold for a count of four- and repeat a few times. The amazing thing is, just a few breaths will start to make a difference. The client shared bits of her struggles with chronic fatigue and adrenal dysfunction. She had been battling severe fatigue for years, attempting to find solutions on her own. It provides a sense of safety and cultivates a feeling of ‘being at home’ in your body. ‘Home’ is where the body rests, recovers, repairs, and grows. Without it your emotions, your immune, digestive and endocrine systems are dysregulated. This is how chronic health issues can arise. And when you are disconnected from “home”. it’s harder to connect with others. Your entire human experience changes depending on whether or not you feel at home inside of yourself. Unaware people can find reasons to take offense over any little thing. Healed, aware people understand that people are usually reactionary in nature. Often, our outbursts have more to do with stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, overwhelm, illness, fights with our family or spouses, etc. And nothing to do with the actual person we finally blew up on! So, try not to take offense if you happen to be the unfortunate person someone has overreacted at!
