I am truly interested in Food and AgriTech… Here is an interesting article I’d like to share! Hippo Harvest (HH), an AgriTech startup has just raised $ 21 million. Ok but, who cares? What is interesting is that, differently from other companies that are economically falling in the valley of bankruptcy, this firm leverages the power of data and robotics. Many companies are trying to make use of techniques as vertical farming to save on capital and land, but it has been shown that this approach increases energy and heating costs… not that interesting right? HH indeed empowers the use of technology to make data-driven optimisation. They implemented a new set-up to keep each plant’s microbiome separated, thus controlling nutrients and avoiding the spread of pathogens. To summarise, they sustain to be able to reduce water usage by more than 90% and cut partially the use of fertilizers and pesticides.
