🌱 Did you know that International Biodiversity Day is celebrated every year on May 22? 🌼🌾“Be part of the Plan”, the theme of International Day for Biodiversity 2024, is a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also referred to as the  Biodiversity Plan. 🐝On this #BiodiversityDay, let's remember that nearly 200,000 species, including bees, flies, butterflies, ants, beetles, and various vertebrates, are essential pollinators. Unfortunately, conventional farming practices like pesticide use and habitat loss harm them, leading to significant agricultural losses and health impacts. "The importance of pollinators cannot be over-emphasised!" Professor Jeff Ollerton, who specialises in pollinators and pollination, has written a report which summarises the opportunities (and there are many!) that Biodiversity Net Gain presents to companies putting planning proposals forward. Biodiversity Net Gain is finally live, the more I think about it the more I like it. Statutory requirements to improve the condition of biodiversity by 10% is a massive win for nature! Even if there’ll be teething problems on scoring with Biodiversity Metric 4.0 or the ability for local authorities to enforce. So celebrating the win, how can success be propagated further? 🌐 Invest in the ecosystem for biodiversity data Developers need primary surveys of biodiversity, that will create quality data and hopefully see a boom in skilled ecologists ready to work across the economy. 🌱 Develop a robust biodiversity credits market BNG creates demand, which can seed a thriving market that’s learned all the lessons of carbon credits. 🐾 Expand the framework beyond developers This idea applies well to all sectors that have an interface with nature, imagine the impact if agriculture and forestry needed 10% gains too. This is a rare moment of the UK leading on the environment, so I would love to see us capitalise on it! #biodiversitynetgain #naturebasedsolutions

Recently, our paper was published in 'Biodiversity and Conservation' under Volume 32, Issue 14. The article is entitled 'Initiatives for Biodiversity Conservation and Utilization in Crop Protection: A Strategy for Sustainable Crop Production.' This article emphasizes biodiversity conservation and utilization in crop protection, through which we can develop a more sustainable approach to crop production that balances the needs of farmers, consumers, and the environment.
