So many carers tell us they feel powerless, with their voices ignored in meetings, care plans and future plans, when often they are the people who know the children best. Is this ok? Help empower foster carers, which in turn helps with retention and recruitment: https://lnkd.in/dF75XPvH

As a mature master's student, I am passionate about working with and supporting individuals to become trauma-aware.
Navigating the complexities of blocked care can be daunting, often unrecognised by foster carers. This lack of awareness/training can lead to children moving through the care system unnecessarily. Imagine the positive impact if every foster family were equipped with the knowledge and understanding to address this issue effectively. Furthermore, all frontline staff should understand blocked care, especially those working within residential care settings. #training and #awareness

As you say Sarah a solution ready to go
❌ Say NO to the 'Register' This meme is flying round social media at the moment, foster carers are angry at being misrepresented. Someone said to me "well have you got a better idea then?" The answer is yes, we've had a better idea since 2019 when Lord John Hendy QC wrote us up a foster carer's bill, which provides the framework for a Central Licensing Authority for foster carers. This isn't an 'idea' it's a solution, one ready to go: https://lnkd.in/e78PGnX8 Yes, it does work, across the pond in France they have been doing it since 1989. #fostercare #postivechange #protectchildren

Sadly this is a regular occurrence in allegations. We aren't talking about what the children say here, but what is written by children's services professionals in allegation reports. When you are doing a report for a disciplinary procedure there is no room for 'fiction', for agendas, or opinions put forward as 'fact'. At the NUPFC we endeavour to identify fact from fiction, to ask for evidence and ensure that entire reports are not simply based on opinions that are carry a heavy cognitive bias, whether that is unconscious or not. The current allegation system is rife with opinions seen through the lens of agenda. There is no other fostering 'support' organisation who can defend you and challenge fact from fiction. Help foster carers feel protected, give foster carers equal opportunities, treat foster carers as you expect to be treated yourselves: Join us: https://lnkd.in/dF75XPvH

https://lnkd.in/euNJeZAJ 👉Working status – We need to find ways to give foster carers more security, improved working conditions and basic rights. We lag behind the rest of Europe in this regard. 👉Whilst child protection is paramount it is widely known that the allegations system requires an overhaul. Systems like this are harmful when they are used to prevent foster carers from speaking out, advocating fully for children or highlighting opportunities for improvement. The unbalanced power of the allegations system has created a climate of fear and damages retention and recruitment. #FosterCare #FosterWiki #SupportFosterCarers #GE24
