Have you ever considered your options for providing care to patients beyond the hospital? Home Health Nursing is a unique specialty that provides one-on-one care to patients in their own homes. This is an established specialty within our American history. Home Health Nurses were traditionally termed “Visiting Nurses,” and the specialty gained traction in the early 1900s in New York. Home health nurses serve as case managers for their patients and communicate symptoms and issues to the provider. Case management also includes coordinating care with the healthcare team, such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, the patient and his or her family, and social workers. Home health nurses also oversee the care provided by home health aides (HHA). It is not surprising that most patients prefer to stay home if given the choice and if appropriate. The patient’s own environment is where home health nurses shine. Read on to learn what these nurses do during their daily workday. https://hubs.la/Q02pBLXH0 #homehealthcare #visitingnurses #homehealthnursing #nursingblog #ncc

There are several reasons that account for our national nursing shortage. Many of which are well-known - moral distress, ongoing mandation, redeployment, a lack of resources, worsening nurse-to-patient ratios and so on. All are factors that continue to further erode the frontline. And yet, few people are talking about the costliness of nurse turnover. In an article published on roarforgood.com entitled 'The Cost of Nurse Turnover,' the journalist wrote, “The average cost of turnover for a bedside RN ranges from $28,400 to $51,700 USD." In another published by NSI in their 2023 National Healthcare Retention and RN Staffing Report, “The average cost of turnover for a bedside RN is $52,350, a 13.5% increase from the previous year.” With just two reports - and both solely focused on RNs - one can't help but wonder what this looks like in our province. How much we are bleeding out as we pay for nurses walking out the door? Isn’t it better to invest in the public nurses who are on the frontline today? Radical change just might be thinking of new ways to keep the staff we have. #TimeForRadicalChange

Emergency nursing is a specialty within the field of professional nursing focusing on the care of patients who require prompt medical attention to avoid long-term disability or death. In addition to addressing "true emergencies," emergency nurses increasingly care for people who are unwilling or unable to get primary medical care elsewhere and come to emergency departments for help. In fact, only a small percentage of emergency department (ED) patients have emergency conditions such as a stroke, heart attack or major trauma. Emergency nurses also tend to patients with acute alcohol and/or drug intoxication, psychiatric and behavioral problems and those who have been raped.Emergency nurses are most frequently employed in hospital emergency departments, although they may also work in urgent care centers, sports arenas, and on medical transport aircraft and ground ambulances. #sns institutions #snsdesignthinking #snsdesignthinkers

In the past two years, approximately 100,000 nurses left the workforce due to stress, burnout, and retirement. The impact of new technologies on addressing nursing shortages remains uncertain. A recent Mercer report forecasts a national nurse surplus of around 30,000 by 2028. Despite this projected surplus, several states like New York, Georgia, and Tennessee are expected to face significant nursing labor shortages, along with most rural areas across the country. While nursing shortages may seem less severe currently, ensuring job satisfaction and enabling nurses to fulfill their professional roles are crucial for sustained improvement. #NursingShortages #HealthcareWorkforce #JobSatisfaction #healthcare #rheumatology Rheumatology Nurses Society
